if you look at the air filter cover there are 2 clips. undo those 2 clips
and the cover will open.

remove old filter.

drop in new filter.

close cover

latch the clips.

close bonnet without jamming your fingers between the hood and
grill.

take a step back.

make sure you toss the old filter in the trash, not fling it across the road.

On mine there are 4 snap type clips, not 2.
And there are aftermarket filters available. But replacement is as simple as posted.

nnn? was it 4? maybe im thinking about another car. but i did reinstall my
stock intake the other day and checked the stock airfilter just in case.

regardless, undo the clips, either 2 or 4 and the cover will open up.
it's that easy.

remember the orientation of the stock filter before pulling it out so that
you know which way it goes in.

kenchan's directions are accurate. it's not a hard thing to do at all. if it helps at all the filter is located where the airbox is a giant square box. but i'm sure we all knew that

This thread reminds me that with almost 22K on the Fitmobile I should probably replace that air filter...

Just take it out and look at it. It might be almost as good as new; depends largely on where you drive. Dusty conditions will clog it up a lot faster than city or freeway driving.

Consumer Reports did a piece on this awhile back. Their conclusion was that an air filter could be pretty freakin dirty and still have no effect on MPG. That being said, I changed mine at about 30K if I remember correctly.

Best to you.
