SErvice.... Maint. Minder?

So.. My car has 21,xxx miles on it now. I've never taken it in for service. I'm reading around and notice that there's a 15,000 mile service that needs to be done? I just follow the maintence minder and it never mentioned anything about that. It's always A1 (oil change, tire rotation).

Any suggestions?

if its just an oil change and tire rotation you can always do that yourself! i never follow the maintenance reminder. i have a little over 40K on my fit. i just dint it easier to do it yourself. its cheaper that way too.

there's a specific service manual that comes with the Fit, separate from the owners manual. This will describe what is done at each interval.

And you can bet the dealers usually don't check anything but the fluids, lol.

the manual's maintenance schedule says, "perform this service according to maintenance minder or annually, whichever comes first." in the first year alone they want to replace trans fluid, replace plugs, replace engine coolant, replace air cleaner element, replace dust filter..... in other words, they want your money.

hmm... i haven't replaced tranny fluid.. plugs.. or any of that...

Maybe I'll get some of it done at a mechanic.. and replace dust filter type things my own.
Is there some where online that says what needs to be done and at what mileage?

I did the same thing, missed the 15K service and at 17K the Fit was in for a scheduled oil change and I had the tires serviced. When I picked it up, I asked about the fact I only did an oil and filter change since new. Service manager said to catch it next time.

I rotate the tires every second oil change anyway, the air filters (interior and engine) were changed by myself at 18K (very dirty). Saved a ton doing the filters, took all of three minutes and my wife could have done it, very easy. The A/C works better as a result. I did have my brakes adjusted at 20K, they seemed a bit off from wear, the adjustment/cleaning was a $50 charge. I missed the major service appointment but caught up unknowingly. I did not see any reminder on the service light, must have missed it. All is well now.

At least change the air filters yourself and save 50% on what the dealer will charge. ALSO, ask if it is required service for warranty whenever any work is advised by the dealer? My dealer said it was not, above the oil/filter and air filters. They want your cash and never mention the false implied service as "required". Ask questions.

Yeh, there was no maintenance minder for anything other than tire rotations and oil changes....

I'll go ahead and change out the filters and then wait for the 30,000 which I heard should be a major one? I guess where i'm getting at is... I wish there was and maybe there is that there's something that says..

10,000--> Oil change/tire rotation/brakes
20,000--> blah blah blah blah
30,000--> blah blah blah blah

or something in this manner. And I know that every car is different and may need different items. But as a general rule of thumb would be nice.

I was very surprised at how dirty my interior cabin filter was, it was not even the same colour as the replacement from Honda. I looked all over Calgary, it seems the only replacement filter comes from Honda, nothing aftermarket. The engine air filter was no better really. Online the filter deals were better than at my local dealer, about 40% cheaper clicking a mouse.

Thanks Kamaurakid.. I'll purchase those 2 filters from there. Seems decently priced.
