"Rolling" sound in the middle when stopping

Hello everyone,

Today is my 7th day anniversary of my 09 Fit Sport MT. It's intended for my wife but i'm loving it very much. I have 575km on it so far.

Today, i noticed that there is some kind of "rolling" sound underneath the car. It sounds like there is a screw driver rolling on a carpet floor. (i hope you can imagine what i'm hearing). I'm sure it's not coming from anything in the trunk or the grove box as the car is still "as is" when i picked it up from the dealer.

The sound only happens when i do a complete stop. It doesn't occure when I slow down.
I suspect it's coming from the brake.

What are your thought on this?

Anson

Suggest you have the dealer check it out since it's still under warranty.

Thank you Ski,

when i drove the car to work today, i was trying to figure out where the sound is coming from. Is it possible that it's from the gas tank, the liquid inside the gas tank rocking back and forth when i do a complete stop.

I did another test when i park my car, ignition off, parking brake engaged, i manually rocked my fit from inside and i could hear the same rolling sound as well.

My guess would be the gas tank. Though it wouldn't hurt to have the dealer check it out.

Your wife drives a stick? That's awesome! My girlfriend is completely unwilling to even try to learn haha.

Yep, it could be in the gas tank, or in the spare wheel well, or in the muffler.

But is it normal to have that distinct echo sound from the tank?

Does it happen to your Fits?

Yes, on both models I hear it when I am pulling into my garage. I usually have my radio going in traffic so I don't hear it then.

Yes it is the gas tank. The gas is swishing around inside. I'm assuming u have a full or near full tank. It's totally normal, nothing to worry about.

yes, i noticed that when i filled up the tank recently.

496 km with 30.1 L (assuming gas tank was filled up to full by the dealer)

I will pay more attention when in these couple of day.

Gas tank is under your seat so it's more pronounced compared to other cars.

That's what makes it possible for the back seats to fold down flat to the floor like a minivan. I personally say that's a good tradeoff!

What a perk to owning a FIT...sound effects!

Oh yeah...

Every speed bump I slowly drive over causes the gas tank to remind me it's there. Really funny...I have never owned a car that I could actually hear the gas in the tank move around!I reason it is because of the location where it is mounted. I guess the '09 is designed the same way.

It may be affected by the air temperature too. I didn't hear it at all until we had some cooler days. I still don't hear it all the time, just randomly. You might hear it sometimes, and not hear it again for a while.

Just one of the Fit's quirks!

yeah i hear the gas tank sloshing every once in a while in my 07 fit. i don't even notice if it's when the tank is full, 1/2 full, or close to empty. It would make sense that you're hearing the same sound in your 09 fit.

Yes, it is the gas in the tank. It is most noticeable in mine when it has about 6-7 gallons left in it. All Fits do this.
As I have posted once before, it's your car's way of reassuring you that there's several gallons of gasoline just a few inches from your a$$hole.
