What the car really needs is a limited-slip differential. That would help improve performance both in the dry and the snow, with minimal weight penalty.

no AWD for Fit, when you think about it that's not how honda does it in the US only the Ridgeline and Pilot have available AWD in US so it wouldn't make sense for Fit to get it

Plus it would drop MPG and slow it down even more.

Still wiating

i'm still waiting for a AWD fit owner in another country to pipe up and tell me where thier at mpg wise, and the like.
two months ago i was dreading the first snow here in utah, and i love it here and it wouldn't stop me from getting out and driving in it, i just happened to talk to a lady trying to get rid of her 22 yo civic 4wd wagon to someone that would take care of it like she did for the first 22 years of its life, and having owned a subaru and a nissan 4x4 truck in the past, i knew i could put it to good use, and after the last couple storms here i am constantly outside doing "snow dances" at work, i can't believe how good it (civic 4WD) goes in snow, sure it is alot slower than my fit on dry roads, but thats what carboration (sp) and a 70hp motor were all about back in the day, AND I'M SURE HONDA'S CURRENT GENERATION 4WD/AWD IS much more refined
and KYLERWHO: I WILL BE LOOKING INTO IMPORTING A GD4 from japan, i'd love to own one and show it off, i'd keep my current GD, and would sell the $75.00 civic wagon i have, for a slight profit ofcoarse

As soon as it's paid off, I will find a way to put in an AWD drivetrain. Either that, or I'm selling it and buying a Tacoma.

Michigan seems to be getting into a bad trend of snow every day. It's had a bad month every year for the past 3-4 years, worse than what we've had since '97.

I love the fit, but I hate having to wait 2-3 days after our weekly snowstorms to leave the house.

there is no way to convert the gd3 to an awd setup due to the chassis design. try import a gd4 for the fun fit.

so you wouldn't have bought an awd fit? i'd be willing to bet you would have if it were an option! but i could be wrong.
and about repair costs? hmmm well i suppose if this 87 4WD wagon i have is still on the road after 22 years and is incredible in snow and muddy roads and i think the diff 89w90 oil has been changed religously (previous owner) i think i'd be willing to split with 10 bucks every two years for some 08200-9007 dual pump diff fluid that the newer system uses!!!
I had a 91 Civic AWD wagon for over 15 years. There was never a mechanical problem with the drive train either. I keep hearing the extra repairs involved every time AWD is mentioned. I don't know where they get their data? I only changed the diff fluid once. :-)

The only weakness was the exhaust system. It gets rusted out every few years.

Bring it
We are really missing our WRX right now with the 2 feet of snow we had in the last 3 weeks. The fit is good with winters but AWD is a blast especailly on snowy wet roads.

I wouldn't buy an AWD Fit, nope.

IMO it would kill the fuel economy and tax the small engine to make the car even slower and add unnecessarily to the price.

I'd much rather have a mechanical limited slip differential on my FWD Fit (not electronic traction control). An LSD and snow tires would be more than adequate for any snow driving you are going to do in a Fit.

Even though i hate the way the GE8 looks, if they came out with a AWD version id trade my GD3 for it. Straight Rally Fit status, then i wouldnt have to ride in my buddys car to go boarding in Tahoe. Please Honda make it!

I would love to see the fit AWD and a turbo stock. But than that would make the price of it go way up. Honda does have a great 4cyl but the evo has a better one if u ask me. A evo with just a full TBE and MBC set at 22psi will push 330-350 AWHP i dont see any hondas doing that with a turbo and TBE on a stock block. The evo u can run that engine too 450-500AWHP on stock block. But really i just want the fit to come stock with a turbo that would be great if honda had one i would go buy it. They have some great cars but none are turboed. I want to trubo my fit with the HKS kit but i like my warranty too so i am keeping it stock for now

Yes to AWD. No to 4WD.

Honda has the best NATURALLY ASPIRATED 4 cylnders. They have very little experience with turbo-4s. I'll stick to my Mitsubishis for those.
