I regret buying an auto Fit :(

I kind of regret buying my Fit with the AT. I didn't have much experience driving an MT, so I went with what I knew. What to do? Maybe try to finda used MT and trade in? Hmmm . . .

Anyone else make this mistake?

I have an Integra that is manual. I bought the GE8 AT to be my daily driver. Battling L.A. traffic is a breeze. Takes me 45 minutes to travel 10 miles. No regrets getting the AT.

Sorry to hear that. What made you change your mind? Was the tranny hunting too much?

When only the GDs were out I considered getting one several times. I drove both AT and MT several times and I found the MT a little weird in the clutch motion and the powerband. I was seriously opting to get the AT, which would be a first for me.

Luckily, I waited it out and once the 09s came out I found the clutch motion much better. It didn't feel awkward. I'm so glad I didn't get the AT as the MT adds a healthy dose of fun, involvement as well as a much better match to the powerband. Huge difference.

That said, I still think the AT is nice for this car - flappy paddles operate very well, which isn't the case for a lot of cars out there with this feature, and the shifting is very smooth.

I did not make a mistake, I love my AT Fit and am not ashamed of it. If you are unhappy with the car then I guess your only option is to trade it in.

I had maybe 5 hours logged in driving manuals, in Volkswagons and (go figure) a 90s Nissan Z, before I bought my car.
I knew I wanted a manual because I personally didn't like the feeling of being limited in the cars that I could drive. I wanted to have my very own manual, to learn how to drive and have the experience of a manual at least once.
When I went for my test drive I had the saleswoman take me to some out of the way back roads to drive on. Never even tried the AT.
I love my car and I will be driving manuals for a long time to come. If I had a city commute or when I get old and tired, then I'll go back to AT.

If you think you could be getting better gas mileage, that's not enough reason to trade your car in. If you wonder whether MTs are more fun to drive, not enough reason to trade. You will take a loss if you trade in your car, if you've just recently bought it. But if it is going to eat you up and ruin your enjoyment of your car, you have to do what will make you happy.

I bought a Sport AT and I have the paddles if and when I feel like shifting. I almost never feel like shifting though. I'm happy with my choice.

May I add...even though I commute in LA traffic, just like every previous Honda I've owned, I still would love to shift a manual, especially this Fit - the controls are light and satisfying.

Only cars ive ever owned in auto were only avail in auto, so of course I have a manual fit. Keep the car and use the lesson You learned on your next purchase.

It's a base model, so I don't even have the option of paddle shifting. I would have to settle with shifting through 1, 2, and 3. Lol. I love driving my Fit because of it's amazing handling, but with an MT I would just feel more in tune with it, rather than just being passive. If I mod it, it's all handling mods (springs, coil overs, strut bars etc) so maybe I can settle with a beautifully handling daily driver AT that looks nice.

yah, sounds like you already out-grew your base Fit. time to trade in and get
a 09 FitMT or find a 08 with MT.

MT's the way i went with mine and have never looked back...

It's totally a personal decision. I'm more than happy with my AT with paddle shifters. I realize how much fun MT can be, and I wouldn't mind having 2 Fits for that purpose, but 75% of the time I just want to cruise and get from A to B.

I made the "mistake" of purchasing my second car with an auto. The dealer convinced me that the new "Steptronic" transmission offered the same driving feel as driving stick and would give me a better resale value later on. Unfortunately, it wasn't the same and I hardly ever used it.

My last two cars (including my Fit) have been stick. I am one of those that feel driving a stick adds enjoyment to driving. I understand there are people on both sides of the fence.

Anyway... I understand how you feel. Financially... it doesn't make sense for you to do a trade in. However... if you're that unhappy... and you have the means to get another car... just go for it and learn from your "mistake". If you're worried about traffic... don't... because you won't even think about the shifting once you get used to it.

I really enjoy my A/T Base 2008, especially with the BLITZ TC.

I've driven a M/T Celica (17yrs old) and a Ford Fairmont SW (19 yrs old). After that, even my Ford Pinto SW was A/T!

Al our other vehicles have been, and will be A/Ts.

Sure, I'm shifty, but convenience is worth the bucks.

Guess'n I'm too lazy for all that shift'n, FTW!

Couldn't have been better said!!
just make a game out of driving your AT, use sport mode more, i think you'll like it more, i use my paddles in D mode ALL THE TIME, mostly when slowing to a stop or i'll down shift half way thru a corner rather than using the brakes, i love my AT but thats cuz i have a 6speed AWD civic wagon and a 300+ hp CRX 5sp
