Grinding front end noise

I spotted a post (see below) from another board member and replied but the post doesn't seem to move to the top of the page. In any case, I am experiencing the same exact problem with my '07 Fit. I have 20K miles. Anyone else? Any ideas?

"I have an 08' with 25,000 miles on it and I am having a problem with the brakes. When I brake there is a bad grinding noise that comes from the passenger side. I checked the pads and they are fine, my next thought is that the rotor is warped. Does anybody have an idea?"

I can't stop!!!

You could have a caliper that's sticking, or possibly a loose caliper bolt or a brake pad shim that's gotten worked out of place. Since brakes are nothing we should take for granted, and if you aren't able to find the problem, please do yourself a favor and have a mechanic look at it. The good thing about brakes is that they are very simple, so any mechanic should be able to locate the problem very quickly.
Best to you.

I intend to bring the car in to the shop. I was just a little surprized to see another post here describing the same exact problem. I sent the guy a message and hope he gets back. I saw a post this morning as well on another Fit forum that also described the same symptom. Now I'm wondering if it's a Fit defect.

I took a quick look at the rotor and it looks fine. No unusual signs of wear.

the pad on the inside has the wear indicator and usually wears first, so its hard to tell at a glance, or a stone could be stuck in the heat shield

this was the reason my brakes used to grind. i put it in reverse, dropped the clutch, and jumped backward a few feet. the pebble shot out and the noise was gone.

I changed my pads at 36000 miles. That's about how long OEM pads last depending on driver. Just pull off the wheel, check the inside pad. The outside pad always looks good. Or there's a rock like the others say. Hopefully its a rock.

The brakes do make a helluvalot of noise when the ABS is doing its thing. Were you braking on snow/ice? Mine sounds like someone put gravel in the wheel bearings, but only when the ABS is active.

i had a similar noise before, at first i thought it was the brakes, but then i found that it was the lugs coming loose from my wheels....i have no idea why

yeah, the ABS scares me all the time. usually activates when i'm braking into the parking garage at work and the ramp is wet - i'm not even going any faster than the 5mph speed limit so i don't even know why it's coming on half the time
