Fit... Stolen

So last night my friends' Fit was stolen :/ I guess a group of thieves went breaking into cars (not smashing windows, like they knew what they were doing) in his neighborhood.

Well his idiot girlfriend (well ex - ironically they broke up yesterday evening) had left the spare key in one of the glove boxes! So, while they were raiding the car, they found the key and dipped out with a big prize.

Total bummer because he had come from the studio here and had his 'priceless' guitar and all his equipment and some autographed sports stuff.

So, anyone in the 20878 area keep an eye out for an orange 08 with MD tags with #EET##.

Well I just hope there is never anything worth anything to you when you have your car stolen. How is that fishy? Do you expect people to walk their music gear everywhere!?

sounds like someone is commiting insurance fraud hahahaha. since there wasnt a broken window and "there was a key in the car" he'll get his fit back in perfect condition and $$$$ for the "valuables" haha

Nah, most people who commit insurance fraud don't post up stories on the internet about it.

I would say there is a possibility the X-gf was involved, but depends on how sketchy she is as a real person.

People get lazy and leave stuff in their cars all the time, I have a friend who went into a store for 15 mins and when he came out he was missing 180$ in cash, his wedding band, some crazy 200$ backpack and a bunch of other stuff... that is what happens when you get lazy these days in sketchy neighborhoods.

ill keep an eye out. but most of the the people i know who used to steal cars never used it for more than one day. they take em out, drive around town for the night then ditch the car.

have you guys drove around the area? checking metro stations, big store parking lots?

goodluck with the situation. i wouldnt rule out the crazy ex either! make her feel guilty even if she didnt do it, she probably deserves it.

He said he drove around a bit when he first thought she may have been in on it. We're not sure, but either way she left the darn key in there, so shes the reason the whole car is gone rather than a GPS and some jerseys. I have a feeling they aren't going to just joy ride a newish car though, it would be worth more to them to part it out. Maybe I'll drive through the Metro garages at Shady Grove since that's the closest. I ride Metro every day to work, so I keep my eye out in the other lots, as well as some of those 'repair shops' along the way (if you ever been on Red Line, you know the ones). [Oh, and I know I'm crazy to buy a new 09 TWB, then ride Metro every day, lol]

There was one perk though, turns out his amp thing (the thing he sits on top with all the knobs) was still in our studio! He never packed it when he was fighting with his girlfriend, so that's one small upside. His update on insurance was that he will get no more than 80% the value of the car, since it was less than a year old, he should be between 75-80% value. Which, hopefully covers the rest of his loan :/ .

I can't believe some of you people on here are saying it sounds fake and stuff just because he had some valuables stored in his car! Now, the guitar is dollar wise worth a lot, but it was the fact that he had gotten it from his step dad and had used it to record the whole first album, and play every show. I know I have carted around a drum set that costs upwards of several thousand dollars. Plus, you don't think someone is going to break into your car when it is parked outside a North Potomac home...

Tell me about it. My wife and Father-in-law took the kids out to eat at a local Bob Evans in a decent part of town. They left the windows in the mini-van cracked and the van was parked in the handicapped spot closest to the front door (less than 10 feet away). Couple of guys pulled the window down, ransacked the entire vehicle, taking the wife's purse (taking her keys out and leaving them on the front seat of the van), the DVD player, all of the DVD's (they left all the country music CD's), roughly $200 in cash, the 110 voltage inverter, and the set-top analog/digital TV converters that they had just purchased. They charged $300 in three transactions at two different gas stations (I'm thinking beer and cigarettes) to the Mastercard and over $1000 in four transactions at Wal-mart and another gas station to the AMEX card...

... in less than 45 minutes. Thank God that one of the kids didn't need to go out and get something from the van while they were in it. Fortunately, the credit card companies absorbed the entire amount and the rest of the loss was covered under my FIL's insurance.

I once left $27,000 in cash and checks on the front seat of my car and then about 1/2 hour later I left 8,000 in small bills and change in the rear hatch.

(I took K-Mart's deposit to the bank and had to leave it in the car while I went in to tell them that I was NOT leaving my pistol in the car. I picked up change for the next day, then had to go get a shopping cart to carry it into the store. Cases of quarters are frickin HEAVY!)

i was going to think that how can a FIT get stolen... i felt like it was going to be a part of EG,EK,integras, accord, and all the other hondas were made in the 2001 and below.

but hopefully you know who stole it later in the long run. sorry about the lost.. but it does sounds pretty suspecious.
