07-08 is the year you want. 09 the Fit turned into a Matrix.

So can you still find new 08s or I'm probably going to have to get one with 20k miles if I go that route?

U can find a lot of used ones for cheap. i like to travel and the out doors to. ITs funny it seems to me a truck or the fit would be better for what i like to do like camping, fishing, hicking, and taking pics where ever i go. But i tryed the fit it was a great car but just not my style. Maybe im still young just turned 24 and need to get it out of my system but for some reason i just have to have a car that will fit my style. Had a evo than i said lets try something more practical and well lets just say it was not working for me. but the fit will fit u perfectly its a great car

Get a used Honda Element SC or the EX but the SC just looks so much better, both SC or EX interior is very versatile. You will like that SUV due to its usefulness. I like my GD3 Fit too and I should say that I made the right choice for my budget. Its good on gas and it can carry a lot of things. But if I had a lot of extra $$$$, I would like to have the SC.

They sold out in '08, so I imagine next to impossible to find with low miles. I forsee the '09s selling out too, with all the awards it is getting and a huge upgrade for just a little more $$$... just go get yourself one now and be happy that you bought a car new that you know is quality, can take care of and own for many years.

You can ignore the jealous fanboy brigade who wish they had an 09. lol

I talked to a dealer nearby and for an 09 Sport auto he said he'd do $200/mo for 60 months if I put 6k down. That's only 18k total. It seems too cheap or am I wrong?

Several people on here are wrong. The 09 GE has considerable improvements on the interior and is more powerful than the 07-08. Maybe a little heavier but still more powerful. I test drove a used 07 and new 09 the day I purchased my 09 sport. Decided to go with the 09, it just fit me better. It comes down to personal preference. There are a lot of 09 haters on here. Go drive both and see what you think. More than likely you're Honda Dealer has a couple of used 07-08s and some 09s.

Either way you can't lose. I used to have a Yaris and was seriously considering the 09 5 door hatch. After driving the fit, you really appreciate the built quality and all the thought that was put into the design. Comparing the fit to the yaris now, the fit is a much more well built vehicle (it is around $3-4K more expensive depending on the configuration).

In my opinion, the '09 is NOT an improvement over the '08. It may be for people who do not work on their own cars. I am not an '09 hater. I just like to work on my own cars. Just look under the hood of an '09 next to an '08. Changing the plugs in the '09 will be torture. With that said, I will be buying an '09 sport from the dealer anyway, because used fits are too expensive. I really don't need the spoiler or the low-pro wheels, but I do need the cruise control. I can't believe anyone would recommend an Aveo.

You have a point, but how often do you change the plugs anyhow? After 100k miles? That is hardly a reason to not proclaim the newer designed Fit an improvement. Honda simply has taken the majority of opinions into account to develop the next generation. I would assume 90% of buyers will take the extra interior space and HPs over being able to change their plugs after 100k miles. It's always a balance of what you need, but when recommending to someone, you have to consider what would suit most people, not just your own perspective.

I've owned both GD & GE (GD for 38K miles)
loved both cars, but I like the 09 better. They kept the handling and original concept in tact and added a number of improvements, that I happen to really like. Styling between the 2 seems to be an issue.

low mile 07-08 for $12-13.5K
or 09 for $500 off sticker would both be good deals, and they both would have a good resale at the end.

Remember your over-all car cost includes gas, service, insurance and resale.
All Fits will do fantastic for over all vehicle costs

Just throwing this out there when a car is more powerful and the other is lighter depending on how much more power we are talking about if not much the lighter will win. With the fits as close as they are i doubt the 09s are faster. just my 2 csnt but its way off topic
