And getting 1000$ chopped off the MSRP of a 2006 is childs play, making the Civic LX more cost effective than the Fit, especially with the lower finance rates on the Civic (5.95% in Canada for previous Honda owners) VS the Fit (6.95% or more).
Heh
Just talked to the sales manager of a local dealer. Since it's release, they've sold 22, with 2 couples getting into a near fist fight on Saturday over the last one in stock in the showroom.
But yes, overall, you could pretty much get a EX Civic for a Sport Fit in Canada for a minimal increase.

from everything like price structure, to the vehicle, to the currency.

Seems to me that you guys are giving the Fit WAY more credit than it deserves. Like I've said before, most people looking at the Fit will step up to a Civic DX-G or LX for practically the same price (especially with rebates already offered on the 2006 Civic), and only those that need a hatchback will buy a Fit.
US car buyers aren't going to save much if anything at the pump by driving a Fit VS a Civic anyways.

The only Civics that are hard to find are the Civic EX w/nav, followed by the Civic hybrid, then the Civic Si, followed by the Civic Si w/nav.

3.9% on a Fit, no way. MAYBE if the 2008 is madeover and there are a few 2007 sitting on the lot.

We can't get a Civic EX with NAV in Canada, the NAV option is limited to the the top of the line Acura CSX (around 30K$). And right now, Acura dealers around here are working VERY hard to move cars off the lots.
One of you Canadians help me out please - what's the point of the EL/CSX anyways? My uncle has one, and the first time I saw it I was like..."wait, why is Acura rebadging a Civic?" Is it really that popular in Canada? And if it is, why not just sell it as the top Civic like it is in the States?
After taxes, Canadians have less money for luxuries than US citizens making less money. Acura first introduced the EL to replace the 4 door Integra in 1997, and renamed it the CSX to follow the naming trend of the RSX and TSX. The CSX is aimed at getting people into Acura dealerships, and with some luck, have people upgrading to more expensive models a few years down the line.

Actually, the most common Civics I see at dealerships nowadays in my area is the LX sedan automatic--that seems to be the "bread and butter" model of the car. It's not as lavishly equipped as the EX but then I don't miss the headroom-robbing sunroof or the navigation system available with the EX (I'll get instead a portable Garmin or TomTom unit
).
They're going for around US$17,000 to US$18,000 "out the door."
