Scratched!

I found a 2 inch long gash on the front passenger side door of my 09 Fit Sport today.

Is there anything I can do to fix it? Or would I have to get professional help? (and how much would that cost?) Would my insurance cover this?

I can't stand having my beautiful Fit blemished.

Depends on where on the door the scratch is located. My local body shop wanted $250-300 to repair and paint the rear door on my Fit. That includes disassembling/reassembling the door so there wouldn't be any tape lines (you know, around the window trim, etc.?).

I got the 2 1/2 inch wide body side molding from Zeta for $149 +shipping and covered the dent up.

Not the best pic and the car was filthy, but...

Oh... If you don't have bodywork skills, I wouldn't attempt a repair. As for insurance paying for it, you're likely better off not filing a claim, especially if the repair is less than your deductible to begin with (my collision deductible is $1000). Take it to a couple of shops and see what they'd charge for repair. Ask the guys and gals at your local parts store to see who they'd have do the repair. Sometimes, walking into a shop and telling the proprietor that so-and-so over at CSK, Autozone, or wherever said that they were the folks to see might just get you a discount.

The scratch is near the door handle. I scrubbed it a bit when I was washing my car today and got the dirt out so it isn't as dark and noticeable. But you can definitely still see it from a few feet away.

Would touch up paint (like this) work?

I'd check with my insurance company to see if they would cover the damages and how much your deductible might cost out of pocket. Then I would have Honda take a look and see what their estimate would be. That is one thing about the Fit it has no protection from dings. I've owned my Fit since 05/07 and no dings or scratches because I park on the back 40 and never park in any area that is going to put me beside people who either don't care or have little regarding for their own car let alone your pretty Fit.

In my apartment complex, I always park in a stall that has a fire extinguisher on one side, so there's cars on only one side of me. I figured it'd cut my chance of dings in half. I still got dinged.

I thought it was dented, too? Looks like it in the pic, anyway.

It is dented a little bit. I can live with that though, the dent isn't that noticeable. It's just the big scratch that really sticks out.

Has anyone ever tried Honda's touch up paint?

Honda touch up paint? It doesn't have the shine property that the original paint has so it's noticible unless you put a clear coat finishing over it. Also, it's recommended that when you apply the clear coat, apply to the whole door so it'll give an even shine.

if there's no dent, try polishing it.
