Car got egged
Car got egged
Some punks egged my Fit tonight. I'm not sure exactly when it happened--it was sometime between 10 pm and 2 am. As soon as I noticed it (when I was leaving my friend's house) I raced the carwash to spray it off best I could in the dark, but I really couldn't see much about how good I got it off everywhere.
Am I screwed? Is my car's paint going to be ruined? I've heard horror stories about what this does to clearcoat.

I just looked at it closer with a flashlight, and I definitely do have a nasty mark in the paint where the egg hit. It looks a lot like the mark on the BMW pictured here:

My car is black too like that one, so it actually shows pretty clearly.
This isn't how I planned on spending time at 3 am today.

yeah my old integra which was black also got egged also...the crazy part was that i was standing right there and like a group of like 10 black guys just chunked an egg at my car. Needless to say some words were exchanged and i almost got jumped, luckily my friend's older brother was there and got me out of it. I wish people would just be respectful of other people's property. Screw thieves and vandals! Oh yeah the marking looked just like that on my car.
Sad to say it but yeah you now have a permanent mark, similar to the picture of the BMW on Meguiar's. You'll learn to live with it or get it fixed. That sucks really bad and I feel for you.
My Civic got egged back in 2004 in the middle of the night. Set off my car alarm a few times. Without access to a hose I had to clean it up in the middle of the night before the July sun came out to scramble it on my paint.

sorry to hear.
wash it off completely as soon as possible especially before the sun is up. most scratches from the shell is permanent but you might be able to polish some of it off. eggs will etch your paint so definitely wash and best to wax afterwards.

To anyone who had this happen: was there any way to completely remove the marks or is the damage due to the impact? No easy soap and water fix, I'm assuming.
Also, if it's due to impact, it may be covered under your comprehensive insurance and getting a police report should make it easier to get your insurance to pay out, I would guess!
Definitely would get a security camera, tho, so you get that plate number next time and hunt them down!!!

^ +1 yes, good idea about using comprehensive to get that damage repaired.
damage is different from car to car, impact angle, speed, outside temp, time of day, etc so can't really generalize 'damage,' but from the damages ive seen and tried to polish out (my buddies cars) most of the impact damages were permanent scratches. was too deep to remove safely with my polishes and buffer. light etching was easily polished out. but if that was on there for days it will also be permanent.
on some of them, wetsanding helped but i would not recommend anyone to do that unless you know the risks and have experience using sanding blocks.

When I had my last car ('01 Civic Coupe) some guys in a huge raised truck egged me while driving in the opposite direction on a 2-lane residential street. I wished I carried an aluminum baseball bat with me at the time. Good thing you started taking care of it right away.
sorry to hear.
It's weird how all these negative threads come up, from stolen wheels to egged cars. My previous cars never got messed with...actually someone messed with my s2k once...is it honda thing or what?

Well, luckily, I think I caught it quick enough that the egg didn't cause any damage to the finish. I washed it 3 times in the middle of the night after I found it, and did some more touchup work early in the morning on Monday once there was some light and I could actually see decent. The only thing you can see at all is the circular mark where the shell burst, and it's not in a terribly noticeable spot--it hit at the top of the drivers door about half on the window and half on the body, so the circles are really only half circles.
I went in to file a police report about it yesterday, and they actually said to hold off on filing a full report until I can see whether or not more damage was done to the paint. The have a general report filed that says an incident happened, but they didn't want to go through with a full report that the insurance company would get until I was sure that the damage was actually bad enough to get me to want to file a claim.
