Floor Mats: Get installed by dealer or self-install?

Hi All, I am getting my Storm Silver Sport AT today or tomorrow. I am planning to get Fit Custom All-Weather Floor mats from Dealer($109). How easy is it to install All-Weather floor mats? Can I just buy it from dealer and install myself or get it installed by dealer? How much does the dealer usually charge for installing floor mats?

Please advise ASAP!!

Thanks in Advance.

Sometimes they double the price. If you buy them to install yourself, make sure they print the installation instrucations out as they are NOT included with the product. To install, you will need to cut the carpeting in 6 places to install the positioning hooks on the floor (e-z to do.)

Yeah they are. Mine just came in yesterday. Just because your instructions got left out doesn't mean ours did too .

I JUST picked up my all-season mats right now. They're sprawled on the floor of my kitchen as I type. It came in a flat cardboard box, with the instructions inside. Collegehillshonda.com has the instructions in PDF format here.

It seems easy enough, but it involves using a utility knife to cut the carpet that's already in the Fit My poor baby! It's sprinkling right now, so I'm going to wait for it to stop before I install them.

If you decide to install them yourself, DO NOT buy them from the dealership. You can get them way cheaper from http://www.collegehillshonda.com.

I ended up getting mine from the dealership. He waived the installation charge, so I ended up paying only $109 for them. They are great. You won't be disappointed. I would also recommend getting the cargo tray. There is no installation required. The best price I found for them was at http://www.hondapartsdeals.com/index...or-accessories

Good luck!

The matts DO slide forward, so the 2 front ones have hooks on the rear, and the richt rear has two posts that go thru the carpet. The left rear fits 'snug', so it won't slide. My Hyundai's factory matts came with hooks two- not uncommon.

You just have to cut out the carpet so the ancors for the mats can be attached. The carpet is already scored so you are not really cutting anything rather just revealing what was already there. But the carpet in the FiT is cheap, cheap, cheap. It's basically what is normally found for trunk liner in other cars. That was one thing that really disappointed me in the FiT. But the floor mats cover it right up.

why do you have to cut the original? I thought u just put them on top of the stock rug? Every car my family has had, that's how it was.

Does the cargo tray have a flip lip for when the back seats are down? I like the idea of it but dont want the lip to stay up.

So I did the driver's mat before I had to leave for work. You really aren't cutting anything. It's pre-cut for you, you just have to cut like, a millimeter to expose the hole that you plug the hooks into. But you do take out a tiny chunk of insulation for each hook.

I still have to do the 2 in the back and my passenger's. For now, I just threw them in, and they seem okay.

And yeah, I definitely agree with the trunk-liner comment.

Being something like a 9 time Honda owner, I must say that the floor mat installation is absurd. Either the lawyers are calling all the shots, or Honda has found a way for dealers to make more money.

I bought my mats at handaaccessories.com and just downloaded the instructions. I thought it was ridiculous when I installed the mats in my Element, but the Fit takes the cake.

I'll go through the steps for the front mat, but I have to say...using a template to find where to cut the back carpet? They are out of their mind!

Maybe I'll get motivated to do the rear mats over the weekend...for now they are getting thrown in there.

The "all weather" mats were put in my car as part of the deal. I wouldn't buy them, knowing what I do now. They should be called "rubber mats: and are hooked over two protruding points on the floor. They are hard to unhook, don't look nice and aren't worth $109, if that is what they are. I bought a roll of indoor/outdoor, rubber backed carpet to cover the back floor when my dawgs are goobering on it for $24. I could cut two front mats quite easily from it that would look far better than these recycled tire things !

I think I'll wait for MacNeil Automotive Products to have their excellent floor mats available for the Fit, hopefully by June 2006!

I just installed mine tonight. The fronts were cake...took about 5 minutes since the carpet was pre-cut. I found the precut holes for the back, but decided not to install the hooks since the rear mats fit so snugly. I just don't see them moving around much.

Anyway...it was really easy. I would NOT pay a dealer to install them.
