ok. I think I have crappy gas mileage as well.

I bought the Fit off a friend who babied it. Its a 2008 and I bought it in April. When I got it, it had 15,000km on. Now I have about 23,000km on it.

I'm not sure what MPG I'm getting but when I first got it, I could usually get over 500km per tank of gas. With the highest 600km but mostly highway driving. Lately, I've been getting around 400km with my lowest around 350km per tank. Did some quick math and I think it's around 23MPG.

I haven't really dont that many mods on my car. Its a base model GD3.

I have T1R carbon intake, Tanabe Exhaust and aftermarket rims as far as anything that could possibly make a different in mileage. My tires are bigger. Forget the size but something like 205/60/15? Is this why my mileage sucks?

Or from the intake? I've only had it on for about 3000Km on it.

Anyways, let me know what I should look for. I've done the usual, Engine oil, tire psi etc. Just wondering if the rims are making it so bad.

Larger diameter rims and more rolling friction from wider tires will hurt fuel economy. A poorly broken in motor doesn't help either. If your friend lugged the motor and rarely/never went WOT and then abruptly letting off to engine brake he has probably left you lots of nasty buildup and gunk in your intake valves/ports, combustion chambers and exhaust valves/ports, in addition to the nastiness that your EGR and PCV valves dump into your intake manifold.

Combined 23mpg in a Fit sounds like lots of sitting in traffic and hard acceleration. The above conditions would certainly contribute their fair share each. While marginal/negligible individually, then can all add up to a considerable portion. To what extent does the above describe your problems is the real question.

Maybe there is a squirrel stuck in the exhaust.

Although both intake and exhaust can be the cause - usually from bad alignment of joints - the tires are the most likely cause. 205/60x15 tires weigh a lot more, perhaps 5 pounds each, and the diameter is more than an inch bigger. your mpg should drop by 20%. But are you using the odometer reading difference to determine how far you've driven to check mpg? In reality you have driven 5.3% farther than your odometer shows because your tires are much larger. In any case drop back to a more reasonable size tire before blaming the intake and exhaust but they could be contributors anyway.

That was what I was thinking when I read his post in the wee hours of the morning.... I decided it was time to go back to bed and figured Mahout could explain it better than I could... He always does.

I'm getting 27mpg with 100% city driving. I get 31 with 21% highway, and 78% city driving. I drive an 08 MT base. Hope your mpg gets higher!

I have 2010 auto, and in very short trip city driving (2-3 miles), with tons of hills I get about 23 MPG.

If I go on a country road that's pretty straight with no hills and breeze about 55-60 I get about 40 mpg.

I think people forget how much idling absolutely kills your mileage.

Even without startup idle, as soon as you get into traffic your MPG just plummets while you sit and wait for traffic lights.

Do you idle while you put on your make-up in the parking lot?

I was getting bad mileage during cold weather. I almost traded my Fit for an Insight. The weather warmed up to over 40 degrees and my car went from 26 mpg to 33 miles per gallon. My car is getting more miles I have just over 12k now so maybe that is helping too. Hang in there.

Winter makes a big difference in a bunch of different areas, cold engines burn more gas, there's more rolling resistance when parts are cold, and you end up shoving snow or slush or cold air
