Honda Care Extended Warranty - Is it worth it?
#41
It's a scam.
Do this, add up the extra money you pay per month. For me they wanted to charge $50, then when I told him I used to be a mechanic he dropped it to $30 a month.
Let's say $30 a month for a 4 year extended warranty. 30 * 12 *4 = $1, 440
You can buy damn near any part for that.
That is also IF it breaks. Now add on 5 years, 6 years, 7 to that payment and you will see just how much of a money maker it is for them.
I personally chose to bet with the odds in my favor instead of just paying the extra cash each month.

PS - If $15 a month sounds like a lot....how about 50 cents a day?

The talk about mods voiding warranty is starting to scare me. I upgraded to a bigger horn (fiamm) this weekend. No cutting or splicing any wires was involved, I plugged a relay in the existing horn connector. I also ran new wires from the battery (and used a fuse) to power the new horn.
Did I just completely void my 7yr/160'000km extended warranty ?
If I did, removing all I did is a piece of cake, I don't want to risk having to pay for whatever should be covered but isn't because of a horn.

If you buy the car as a daily driver then if you can afford the warranty, which is pennies, go for it. i did and the only reason for it is that since this car is fairly new in the states there isn't that much aftermarket support meaning most of your repairs will have to come from Honda anyways, why not be covered if that ever happens?

Upgrading something wouldn't completely void a warranty. Think of it this way, the other parts of the car are still covered but your new horn won't be. If for some reason the upgrade caused an issue, that would not be covered.
Same with an intake doesn't void a warranty as long as it didn't cause the issue with the engine.
Some dealers are tuner friendly and some are not. Some service dealers are quite incompetent too (saw that clock issue fix on of the threads-geez) and some are not.
Look for recommendations from others on which dealers are easier to deal with.

Having had to shell out close to 10k last year for our respective vehicles, it was a no- brainer for my wife and I. It is a long-term investment for us, so i'd rather pay a few more dollars a month than $$$$ at a whack. You buy insurance but you may never use it, but youre glad it you have to. That was our mindset in this regard: peace of mind.

When I took my car in for the recall on the engine, the fact that I had the extended warranty was the only way the dealer would give me a free loaner.

Luckiest person in the world?
I have an 09 Fit Sport with navigation. A few weeks ago my navigation system started crapping out. At first it would only sometimes say that it couldn't read the navigation DVD. It gradually increased until last week that the car would start and the error message would display almost immediately. This week I brought my car in to the local dealership only to find out that the main control module has an internal failure and the dealership said they were unable to fix it, the only fix they could offer would be to order a whole new unit. This would cost about $5000 if I didn't have the extended warranty. I about peed myself since I totally forgot that I bought that when I bought the car. Yes, this thing is worth it.
Grain of salt: the technician said he's never ever seen this unit fail this early on any Honda that he has serviced before and he has worked at this particular dealership 10+ years. I will still think twice before buying another extended warranty, I did overpay for it when I bought it, but this one fix alone has paid for itself

Warranties
The reason you buy a Honda, is because it is reliable. Buying an extra warranty actually suggests that you question your own judgement. The heavy odds are that you will never use it.
If you like the extra warranty, then buy a Ford or a GM....you will use it.
An example - our Fit Sport 2008 just turned 5 yrs old. We live high in the mountains of NM, so we get all seasons. So far....we have changed the oil once a year, as per the MM. End of story.

extended warranty vs powertrain warranty?
My 2011 Fit has a 5yr 60000 mile powertain warranty, right? What wuld be the advantage of buying the extended warranty, if the big stuff will already be covered?
Also, if I buy the warranty with 20000 miles on the car, will they try to pin future problems on something that was pre-existing, in which case they wouldn't cover it anyway?

no, there's no "pre-existing" clause, as the car is covered bumper to bumper by the 36K 36month factory warranty. You have until this runs out to decide to buy the Honda extended warranty.
I don't see a cost advantage, unless your peace of mind is pricey.

Does the extended warranty begin at the purchase of the warranty, or the car? The warranties are 5yrs/80000, 100000, 120000; I'll probably reach 5 yrs before I even hit the 60,000 mile mark...maybe not... Anyway, are the extended warranties really best for the driver who will hit high mileage?

it's the number of years and miles the car has been in service since new.
My feeling is high mileage doesn't start until after 120K. That's when the spendy items are likely to fail. And no extended warranty I'm aware of will cover that period. They'd have to charge ridiculously high amounts as that's when cars start to wear out.

Honda Extended Auto Warranty
National Repair Solutions | Extended Vehicle Service Contracts seemed legit. Called other companies, they had the same coverage, just cheaper. Hope that help!
