Honda Music Link Just Stopped Working
Honda Music Link Just Stopped Working
I am in a state of anger, hostility, and complete discomfort.
I went out to the car this morning to takes more pictures and videos of my Fit with the iPod Nano in the Honda Music Link.
Normmaly a check comes on the screen saying it is OK to disconnect your ipod.
Well this did not happen and after countless attempts to manually reset the ipod and reconnect it never worked again.
STAY AWAY FROM THE HONDA MUSIC LINK I AM LIVING PROOF THAT HONDA CANNOT INTERFACE WITH APPLE PRODUCTS APPROPRIATELY.
Sorry about the caps lock it is the state angerthat I am in that did it.

Sorry for your problem - have you tried your previous generation iPod to see if that still works? Is the Nano locked up when not connected?
My first Gen 5 with video was locked up from day one and apple replaced it so don't blame it all on Honda yet...however second party software may be your culprit - or maybe a bunk install with a loose/bad cable?
Also plugging in that 4th Gen iPod that the instructions said not to

Do you think the problem is with the apple/honda software and not the link itself?
Or is the problem with the link?
I find that strange how the music link worked for a few days while you were doing the review and what not.

I think it is a hardware issue with the honda link. I have tried all the ipods with no luck. I have an appointment later this week to have honda look at it.
In response to plugging in an older ipod, it never said you can't just that it wouldn't work. There is nothing in the warranty talking about voiding it if you connect an ipod of any age.
I think it is very wierd that it worked for a few days too.
I know that the connector is still connected because the ipod shows that it is being charged.
My nano is not locked up before I connect it to the link.
I have troubleshot everything I can think of except disconnecting the car battery, but I do not want to do that since it will cause me to put in the stereo code and stuff and that is a pain.
Really what I mean is, is that if when the link malfunctions I have to disconnect the battery I am going to get my money back cause that is crap. i wanted to say a stonger explative but I restrained myself.

First: FitCustomer: I have not tried removing the TTS stuff and start over. I will give that a try I am even going to reformat my ipod nano.
Second: Gordio: Yes the warranty should cover it that is why I am going to the dealership this week to have them look at it. Really I just want to return the link and get my money back.
If the link does this once it will do this again. That is my biggest worry. If this happens on a long road trip I am screwed. I am taking a 2 week trip this summer. If I lose my music I will go insane and blame Honda.

I agree with you....
drknife,
I agree with you..........
I was thinking about getting the BASE model, and go for the
Honda Music Link for my iPod. But for $200 and if I was on
a road trip, I would not want to have to reset my iPod and
re-download everything. Even if the Music link was loose,
what's to say it won't become loose when I'm on my road trip.
In fact whatever the reason the dealer says it is, I'd get my
money back also.
Is there a restocking fee? Do you have to call Honda Corp for RMA?
Where are you going for your two weeks?

I will not be paying a restocking fee and I will not be calling honda corp. I purchased the ipod link at the time of purchase of the vehicle it WILL be my dealerships responsibility or else.....
I am going to bonnaroo(a music festival in tennesee) and then puttering around after that.

::UPDATE::
I have written a big update on my blog.
The gist of it is there are two options for me:
1) Replace the part under warranty and continuing using the Honda Link
2) Remove the part at my exspense and return it for a refund. leaving me with less than half the money I spent on it with installation fees.
The second option is out of the ordinary according to the dealership. I believe them.

Each generation of the regular iPod (the big white model) is aesthetically different from the last. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPod
5th Gen: Video-capable iPods. It's a little thinner and the screen is slightly larger. late 2005 to now
4th Gen: Click wheel iPod. The clickwheel doesn't rotate and is pressure sensitive. It has the buttons built into it. It came in three flavors: B&W, U2, and Color (known as the iPod Photo). mid 2004 to late 2005
3rd Gen: iPod with Dock Connector. It had a scrollwheel, but the buttons were placed above the scrollwheel instead of around it. mid 2003 to mid 2004
1st/2nd Gen: Scrollwheel. The buttons were wrapped around the scrollwheel. 2001 to 2003
The nano, mini, and shuffle are offshoots of the line. They should be specifically mentioned in the requirements if they're covered.
