My Fit Is Sick...?
My Fit Is Sick...?
I am a little frustrated, considering this is the second time this has happened. I've let my neighbor wash my car twice, and when he does so, the coolant fan runs and runs... to the point that it kills the battery 100% (I don't even get a dome light). It jumps instantly and has no other problems (that are apparent). I live in Hawaii where it is very humid. Could it be some sort of condensation sensor that is over-sensitive?
I've had my car sit for at least a month, without even the hint of a failed start-up... Easy solution is don't let him wash it anymore, but this seems like something is wrong.
I've gone through automatic car-washes with no problem, and I do notice a small amount of condensation in the engine compartment after he's done... Is it SHORTING? I heard a ticking in the High Amp fuse compartment.
P.S.
I own a 2008 Honda Fit w/ 16,200 miles.

Does he wash under the hood? Does he listen to your car stereo while he's working? If so, tell him to stop...?
Why don't you wash the car and see if the condition persists? Its super humid in Japan where the car is built/designed. I doubt some humidity is going to kill it.

He knows about it, but he just says "I think you should go get it checked"... He doesn't want to cop to the fact that he probably used too much water or something. He doesn't wash under the hood, but I notice a dampness when he's done. No on the stereo. I think I'm just not going to have him was it again.
It's the fact that he's leaving the key in the on position. If I turn my key to on and sit with the AC on, the fan turns. HOWEVER when I turn the AC fan speed off, the colant fan turns off as well. Seems a little ass-backwards to have the colant fan run in tandem with the AC fans, but that's what I do when I'm sitting in my car on break.
Another note about the fan running: While the colant fan runs almost every time I turn the AC on with the engine off, once in a while the AC fans will spin and the colant fans don't.

yah, i too think he's got the key in the ON position. perhaps tell him to remove the key and place it in the cup holder or something or in his work cart while washing the car. if he doesnt know this he shouldnt be even working on a car.
also, make sure he's not using high pressure (pressure washers) while washing.
