Experience At Dealership Regarding Antenna Repair

I wanted to thank Mustang3x and Tracker for their advice. We did take our car back to the dealer and told them about the antenna leak thing. The dealership was not that friendly, however. They attempted to say we had taken the car through a car wash and did the damage ourselves. We had not even washed the car at that point. My husband had to "yell" at the dealership people to get them to do this repair. They finally did relent and did the job, and they did it well. Usually, this dealer is pretty good with communication and fairness, but not this time, and my husband had to give them strong ultimatums. He took this thread in and showed it to them. We have since taken our car back to this dealer for one servicing. Everything went well, however, I asked them not to give us a "free car wash" after servicing. Maybe it was their car wash that damaged the antenna to begin with! Anyway, it's been a fair amount of time since the repair has been done. Thanks for everyone's opinions and advice.

I just noticed an antenna leak on my 2011 Sport. Wanted to let the community know that this is still an ongoing problem so keep watch.

I took it to the dealership and their diagnosis was "the nut to the antenna was loose and the antenna was leaking." There was an extremely faint water ring around the headliner latch system port. I only noticed it on a really sunny day when I was showing off my Fit. The dealership is going to replace the entire headliner.

Bump! I just resealed my antenna to the roof, so hopefully no more leaking for me.

What did you use? I just used clear calking. Hasn't leaked since... I tried taking my fit into the dealership where I had bought it. They told me, it wasn't covered and would cost around 800 to fix. The car didn't start leaking for about 12 months... Was leaking at the same spot as everyone else...

I've got this very issue on my 09 base where the rear of the antenna mount has lifted, (or the roof is sagging). I've only had the car for a few months and only recently noticed some dripping into the rear hatch area. I've never taken it to an auto car wash though not sure about the previous owner. Luckily there is a rubber floor mat in the hatch area which seems to have contained the small amount of water.
Anyhow I'd like to get it patched up.
Does anyone know how difficult it is to remove the headliner - at least enough to access the antenna nut? I recall reading somewhere that one can sort of get to it by removing the center seat belt trim piece but I'm worried about damaging the headliner so any advice would be great.
Or, I'm wondering if some silicon might seal it well enough from the outside, like caulking ....? Off hand this seems a bandaid at best, thoughts?

I bet you could pop the clips (E) and (F) for a peek. Use something soft like a plastic trim tool.

Thanks GrE8, that definitely looks doable though I'll confess that tube of clear silicone caulk I have out in the garage seems to be calling me, "Take the easy way, just squirt some underneath and around the edge, it'll seal it just fine", LOL I finally have some sunny warm weather coming as well so will probably do that and work on some paint chips, I have quite a few on the hood.

From my limited experience, using caulking to stop a water leak on a car will fail very soon. Your probably better doing it the right way. Unless you are looking for something that won't last.

Thanks for the feedback Frenzal.
First I want to say sorry to see you'll be leaving the forum. I've garnered a lot of good info from your posts in even the few short months I've been on. Best of luck with the new endeavours. (By the way, that red Fit is gorgeous!)

Now back to the leaking antenna, here is my dilema. Earlier in this thread (when people's Fits were still under warranty), the dealers were apparently removing the entire headliner and rolling or bending the roof sheet metal back to where the antenna base made a better seal or fit. I definitely do not wish to take it that far.
As I see it, there are 2 options I'm considering and both involve the clear silicone caulk.
The first is to see if I can remove the headliner just enough to get a wrench in there, remove the antenna base, apply silicon to it and reattach. The pros here is I can probably get a better seal with better targeted silicone application, the con being I might damage the headliner.
The second option is to simply apply the silicone from the outside, potentially gently bending the antenna base a bit and squirting some silicone underneath it that way. The pro here is no risk of damaging the headliner, the con being a sloppy application of the silicon.
Honestly I'm thinking of taking the easy route and going with the 2nd idea

I had the same issue with mine, but because the antenna was slightly loose. Since I was planning to add dynamat to the roof, I decided to just drop the whole headliner. I literally screwed the nut off with my fingers, so what I did is, I added seam sealer to the bottom of the gasket that sits on the roof, I added silicone to the inside of the base and I added blue loctite the bolt and tightened it up.
