Rust
My '91 Toyota 4x4 developed rust over the rear wheel and my wife's earlier model Accord developed rust at the bottom of the doors. Both of which were common issues back then. What about the Fits?
Are there any areas in which we should keep an eye on or have the Fits not been around long enough to develop rust?

subscribed.. i had my car coated when it was new since i live up north here with the road salts late fall, winter, and early spring. i heard that rust shouldn't be much of an issue but i wanted to at least take some precaution

mine for sure will rust at the rear fender cause tires rubbed off paint clean. hahaha.
i dont plan on touching it up, but will sand off the rust next
spring and repaint.
keep driving your car (gets water out of the doors) and wash it often if you drive in salt.

No rust on my 07 yet, but I'm keeping an eye on the rear wheel wells - specifically in front of the tires, there's that spot where sand/water/grime collects and sits. Gonna try and scrub it out then spray it down with rubberized undercoating before winter.

I'm not optimistic concerning durability in the rust belt where I live. New York State dumps 500,000 TONS of salt on the roads here every winter ( I heard this on NPR). The thin, poorly protected metal of the Fit doesn't stand a chance, I'm afraid. I worry about the areas the robotic painters missed, where the primer is showing, like the edges and insides of the fenders. I also expect corrosion in the usual areas like the bottoms of the doors and the rear hatch.
I guess time will tell.

From my experience:
- Check the doorsills and door frames. Mine has a few spots. The top front corner of the front doors is especially susceptible, as well as the adjoining sill area where it sits flush against when the door is closed.
- If your fenders have had deep scratches due to stone chips, rust can form there. Had a nick of rust on my right front fender. Apparently the offending stone had chipped away down to the bare metal!
