Blue background

It's really impossible to turn the blue back screen on radio when lights off ? ie listening a movie at drive-in. maybe put a carton on it.

you can turn the brightness down with the knob over the trip meter (or is that only with the headlights on?)

Yeah, turn it way down. Took me 2 weeks to figure out how to turn up the lights so the radio is at full brightness with the lights on.

With the lights off the radio backlight still stays on no matter what. If the car is on with no lights the dash and radio saty on no matter what (not affected by the dimmer). When the lights are on the radio and dash can be dimmed using the dimmer. This kind of sucks because I frequent the drive in often. Ironically some of the fits ads have people at a drive in.

I bought an Aiwa head unit for another car with a beautiful blue backlight. It is so bright - even on "dim" - that it makes night driving difficult. I fix it the low tech way - a couple of old credit cards for opacity (actually hotel room keys for flatness) taped so they hang over the face. Ain't elegant, but it works.
