My radio/AC/clock lights have gone out or are very dim. Everything works,

Go to dealer. There's a TSB on this. They'll fix it for free.

A few posters here have had Honda replace it for no cost (except maybe for
labour) even though their warranties had expired. They had to fight like
hell with customer service, but I think Honda has gotten the point. There
should be a TSB for it by now.

We're not re-starting that misconception that TSB = free-repair again, are
we? TSB (or Service Bulletin) provides directions to the mechanic on how to
troubleshoot and fix a problem. They do not usually authorize a free fix.

No - we providing Chip information and proof that this is a widespread,
longstanding defect which Honda acknowledged more than a year ago. From
the posts on this newsgroup we know that some dealerships accomodate
their customers on this issue and some don't. This is an obvious
manufacturing defect, not a routine repair or enhancement.

NO to no. TSBs still do NOT equal free repair/replacement as much as I wish
it were different.

I've been affected by several TSBs over 21 years of owning 3 Preludes (all
widespread, longstanding defects, acknowledged by Honda, and appeared to be
manufacturing/design defects right down to singling out only one of the two
manufactures of that part). I was able to work around all but the last one
inexpensively on my own (no thanks to the a** of a local Honda dealer which
will not get any more service work, TB changes, etc from me). And ever
since Honda squelched Alldata, it's been a royal pain copying TSBs at NHTSA
headquarters in DC after finding summaries on their website.

So yes, it is up to each service manager (and zone office) as to whether ANY
"good will" is provided towards a TSB repair, even when the customer has
receipts showing the repair history at that dealer/location for 21 years!

I'll see your No and raise you a No. Chip's post said his 03 Accord had
30,000 miles. That this would be a warranty fix was never part of the
question. I provided the information to Chip so that he would not get
snookered by his service writer.

No to your NO. I did get my radio head replaced free at 40,000 miles
and it didn't hurt a bit that there was a TSB on it.

Al gave me some great info on the TSB that helped me present my case to
Honda customer service.

I was one of those that won the battle and got a free replacement even
though I had almost 40,000 miles on my '03 Accord at the time.

I politely and calmly told the customer service rep (very nice lady, by
the way) that I was in contact with others experiencing the same
problem and would be posting my experience on the Internet. That
probably wasn't the deciding factor in her decision, but I do think it
helped.
