Clutch slipping in 02 sport, 33K miles

Hi All,
I was out driving around town yesterday and my clutch started slipping, a lot. It's alright up to about 3000 rpms before it beings to slip really badly. Anyone else have this happen? I've driven 350K+ miles on manual transmission cars and never had this happen....

BTW, it's an 07 fit, and not an 02 fit as stated in the thread title..... typo.....

Do you by any chance slip the clutch a lot driving around town in traffic or just otherwise?

Also you stated that you have drove other manual vechicals that didn't slip and had a lot more miles then this one...is someone else also driving this 07' Fit?

I only ask these questions so that others and myself can have an idea of your conditions/driving conditions so that people can better help understand the situation you are going through.

I do know that all cars are different so maybe this car will sadly be one that you have to change the clutch in a lot. But It seems really soon to be changing the clutch.

i think the Fit's clutch is pretty weak. im not sure if they did this on purpose or not to save the tranny, but i too have been driving MT's for a very long time and this is the only other car besides the wrx that shudders pretty bad.

My wife drives the car a lot more than I do, but she's a very competent driver. I'm definitely harder on the car than she is, but I'm always careful to not redline it. I tend to drive a lot around town. I generally downshift when slowing, but I'm always careful to tap the accelerator, which I understand helps to save the clutch. I'm very smooth when I drive, although I do tend to have the tac in the upper registers more often than my mild-mannered wife does. Again, I've never had a problem like this and I don't think that my driving style has changed much over the years.

Thanks,
Paulson

having the revs high should not wear the clutch at all provided you aren't slipping the clutch, which it does not sound like you are... the downshifting concerns me slightly, while you should tap the throttle to match the revs if done wrong it can wear the clutch fast... when you are letting off the clutch do you let off quick or slow? if its slow i would suspect that is where the ware is coming from... other than that i could just be a crappy clutch... its not unheard of on the fit to hear of slipping clutches early... i think the only way to know for sure is when it is replaced, a good mechanic can usually tell if its is abuse or defect....

33000 miles is much to soon to be having clutch slippage.... It is possible that moisture has gotten into the hydraulic system that operates the clutch and is creating steam as the clutch warms up if it slips more after driving for awhile than when you first start driving after starting the car....Try bleeding the slave cylinder while adding fresh fluid until what you are bleeding out is clean fluid.... It would be a good idea to do the same with your brakes as well.

Just making sure you didnt have a teenager that just started driving... I know that when I learned I would drag the clutch a little to much.
