deposit questions
deposit questions
hey all, i've been talking to 2 dealers near me and they both say that the fit is a 2 month wait and deposits are necessary to reserve one. that's fine, we had to do the same when we bought a mini cooper. my question is to those who had and have deposits on their fits... did the dealer take you through any numbers or have you sign anything? just want to get some info together before i head in there this week. thanks.

We filled out a purchase order with price of car and options. All taxes and fee listed minus my $500.00 deposit. They had a car on order so they listed the serial number and color on the order. I had them write down that the deal was void after a certain date if the car did not come in and my refund was fully refundable. Also had the dealer manager sign it and myself.

I paid a deposit and signed nothing. I have worried that I may lose out on the car because of no paperwork but I trusted the cute saleslady. I am going out of state around the time the car might arrive and called her and asked what might happen if I was not available when the car came in. I was assured that the car was mine and no one would get to test drive it. She even said it would be kept in a back lot and not even looked at. A VIN should be here before then and I was told I could come in and do the paperwork before I leave.
well since they were coming in and pretty much no one around here knew what they were i put the deposit and just filled a paper out with my contact information...i would say do the buyers guide like mav said...find out what your "out the door" price is...
Only if you were placing an order before the official MSRP release date, should you be expected to commit to a Fit, with no pricing stated. Since that date has come and gone, there's no reason a dealer shouldn't be willing to lock in on a price at the time you put down a deposit... assuming you're willing to sign a buyer's order.
I did not put in a deposit. There was no waiting list in Chicago area. I test drove at a dealer on 4/20 who had three for sale. He would sell any for list price. Another dealer offered to sell a Red Sport for $500 under list but was not offering me a good trade-in. I ended up buying a Base Fit at another dealer for list price on 4/21 but got $500 over web blue-book for my trade with a little fussing. One dealer tried to mark it up by adding pin stripe and door edge guards with a price of $488 for these silly options! They did offer to sell it for list after I mentioned that they were insulting me with that upgrade price on the window. No dealer straight out told me they were selling above list price in the Chicago area. They all said the margins were low on the car and did not want to go below list unless they knew they would get a good trade in the deal.
I put deposit down only AFTER we had agreed on the price, the purchase order was filled out. In VA it is totally refundable by law (what salesperson told me). Turned out to be true as another dealer got a car in that I accepted and I got my refund back from the first one and was done.
In Washington state I put down 500.00 on a honda Fit only after receiving a statment by e-mail of the out the door price. I would get that money back if they where unable to get me the model and color requested. Actually They had a vin number at the time of deposit.
I would run from any one wanting money with out an agreement on paper.
