without giving much thought, i was able to fit my ampeg 4x10 bass cab, 4 space skb rack case, a bass, a guitar, 2 tool boxes, and a back pack. that was without trying to figure out the best possible FIT. i think i could easily get my 15 in there as well.

I don't put much in my Fit. Sometimes I just carry books, magnifying lenses and my blackberry.

What do you use to secure your items - cargo straps or bungee cords?

Myself, three kids and a wife. A car seat. A booster seat. Two suitcases. Two laptops (in carry bags). A alto saxophone in case. A .223 ammo can. A small (three two liters fit in it) cooler. A bag of groceries. Two DVD players. A 110 inverter. A Ruger P94 in case. Two hiking poles. Ten pairs of shoes. Jumper cables. First aid kit. Three pillows. Two blankets. Assorted CD's. Two fishing rods w/reels. A small tackle box. A full-sized box of kleenex.

The combined weight of just people was roughly 750 pounds. We averaged 38 miles on the trip to my folks' house (610 miles) and 36 on the trip back. Of course, I drove faster on the return trip and we had to climb up from Charleston's 0 feet above sea level to Louisville's nearly 700 feet.

Somewhere... drat, it's on another computer... I have pictures of 49 one foot diameter paving stones (at 16 pounds each) and a full sized wheelbarrow INSIDE the car.

Wow!

We are taking my new-to-me 2007 fit to Florida in a few weeks with two kids and all the gear, and that's encouraging, EmC. And thanks to whoever dug up the threads for the newbies...I searched but did not want to get ridiculed. But these are cool threads especially for us newbs. Are they stickied somewhere?

I will be taking the family (me, wife, and 2 kids) camping in the fit the first week in April. Hoping all my gear fits which includes 8man tent, 4 sleeping bags, clothes, food, tackle and other misc gear. I'm excited

I use my Fit like a pick-up truck. Hauled a load to Goodwill that consisted of a banquet table, 5' ladder, microwave, 4 drawer file cabinet, DVD stand and various smaller items. From this trip, I discovered that laying heavy items across the front passenger seat isn't a good idea as it squashes the padding.

When I was working as a commercial painter, it was common for me to to haul a professional spray pump, 25 gallons of paint along with a small box and large bag with all my painting tools and then drive 1.5 hours to the job. I remember a lot of fellow workers jealous over my being able to haul nearly as much as their pickups and get over 30 mpg.

Keep in mind that I ran max sidewall pressure in the tires and very rarely exceeded 60 mph on the trip down. We hit 70 a couple of times on the trip back.

Thanks....I am just getting into hypermiling (or, for me, just driving consciously!) and what kind of tires to get. Need some new tires, too, but that's another thread....

I saw a guy at Costco today with his Fit hatch packed full and kid seat in the back. haven't seen too many around here so that was cool.

I had to get a new water heater for the house and was on my way to my wife's place of employment to get her truck when I realized I could get it into the Fit.... The guys that helped me get it out to the parking lot thought I was out of my mind, I lowered the seats loaded it up and took it home.
