What Breaks on your Fit/What to Cannabalize?

I have a buddy who has a 2008 Fit like mine who got t-boned. He is OK and he said I could take some parts off it tomorrow if I wanted - as it is totaled out.

I'm going to get the obvious stuff/accessories like the cargo cover, mats, light bulbs, fog lights and cool shift knob that I don't have...

The insurance company said that was fine but it needed to have doors, wheels, tires and an engine... but I could take parts and pieces...

What else should I get? Suggestions?

Thanks!

Any airbags that didn't deploy - they're expensive and sellable. Just make sure you know what you're doing when removing them.

Take spare switches and buttons, anything you can get off without breaking... if its the same color take the hood and spoiler and side skirts as spairs... basically i would take anything i could remove with out breaking and that i could store at home... glad to hear your friend is ok....

Insurance company really said its ok? If they use copart or any other accident valuation company, then your friend's final check will be docked for all those missing parts. I wrecked a car on ice just two months ago, and I thought I could do the same, but only removed stuff like the cargo tray, liner, KN filter, etc, and final insurance check reflected the absence of those things. (it was all nickel and dime, but if you take alot of things it could take a few thousand off the final check... if I was your firend, I wouldn't let anyone touch the car until the check was in hand, or amount agreed upon by insurance company first.

+1. I'm pretty sure they'd dock you. If they don't, you'd be a fool not to take everything except for the: doors, wheels, tires, and engine.

Strip that sucker bare if its free. But every insurance deal I've ever been through, they charge you for the stuff you remove. Which is funny, because they won't give you more $ for the addons you have, only charge you for removing them.

Airbags?!? -I would kill myself.

Anyway, don't worry. I will double check that it is OK and make sure he has gotten paid before I take anything. I don't want him to get screwed.

I think the situation is taking some cosmetic parts off the car after the insurance company is done with it - but before the junkyard takes it away... I guess it does seem a little shady now that you mention it... but if the insurance company said it was OK, I'm not going to let something like ethics get in the way of me and a free cargo tray
