Glad to hear everyone is ok after the crumple, he must have been thinking about the $5 in gas it was costing him to back out of his driveway.

Oh, how I feel for you!! I've had several close calls, including twice when people changed lanes without seeing me. Thought it was because I have a Storm Silver and it was a gray, rainy day. How could anyone miss your beautiful Blaze Orange baby! Hope you got an apology instead of a snotty attitude. Looks like your car did what it was supposed to do -- absorb the blows so you don't get hurt. I just griped about a Home Depot cart putting a ding in the door. This put things in perspective. May your repairs be quick and as painless as possible!

Yeah I think I am getting two new doors.
They are in Toronto so at least I don't have to wait for them to come from Japan...

Gosh in hindsight it's killing me. I could have laid on the horn and maybe that would have stopped the guy. Ugh what torture! Haha. I've always been one to beat myself up for stuff like this..thinking I could have just done something different for a split second...oh well. Hindsight

Anywho the anniversary was great. While I was at the spa, hubby took care of everything. Got the Fit to a good body shop where Honda sends all of theirs... insurance adjuster was checking it out on Friday. I should be back behind the wheel soon. Fingers crossed

Glad you're o.k., and glad you had a nice anniversary.

I would've wanted to park my Fit where the sun don't shine on that yahoo.

Hope you get the two new doors, and the swap is easy.

You did the best that you could in the situation. Hindsight will just make you feel bad, and in cases like this, it a negative thing.

Well, I spoke with the body shop this morning. We'll be getting two new doors, new molding for the front door (the black molding by the glass), probably a new handle on the front door. They'll also check the frame with the laser and do an alignment.

$4200 damage. We should have the car back in 11 days.

The paint matching had better be perfect. If the car doesn't look like it did when we picked it up, heads are going to roll.

hehe love you hubby.

that's good about the time frame though. 11 days. I'll be counting the seconds.
I just hope the paint looks perfect.

you should have the body shop buy some visors for you and throw them on since all you have to pay for is your deductible!

Actually I don't even have to pay the deductible. Fortunately.

Update

Well it should have only taken about 2 weeks for the Fit to be complete. I was due to pick it up on Friday (June 30). As it turns out, they needed a part for my window installation that was backordered. Earliest that IT will come is THIS Friday. Crossing my fingers that I get my Fit back late Friday...but it seems to be my luck that it'll probably be NEXT week sometime.

I've been Fit-less for nearly 3 weeks, and have had to make 3 long trips to Pennsylvania in a crappy rental with no cruise-control. Looks like I'll be making another one this weekend in aforementioned crappy rental. Sigh.

After reading your description of the accident, I was going to mention something about maybe being able to avoid it somehow, but since I wasn't there, I have absolutely no standing to make that argument. Besides, I figured, if you were like everyone else, you would be rehashing the situation over and over without my input anyway. Turns out I was right.

Don't beat yourself up. What's done is done. If there are lessons to be learned, learn them, if not, let it go, and start looking forward to getting your car back.

Have the shop install Horn Blasters in your Fit to prevent the same thing from happening again.

Warning, turn your volume down before clicking, funny video.

Another Update

Went to the body shop today to visit my sick baby.
The doors and rear panel thing are installed and look great. Color matches perfect.
Unfortunately the seal stuff (I'm so not a car person, sorry!) that they use around the windows is backordered from the U.S. They are supposed to have it on Friday..but with the holidays and everything who knows. Then it takes like 6 hours of work to complete, and they have like 4 other vehicles sitting there waiting for the same thing as me.
SO...it doesn't look like I'll be getting it back THIS Friday either. Which sucks because I have to make another long trip to Pennsylvania this weekend.
VERY tired of the long trips in the rental with no cruise control!

BUT...it looks like the Fit will be as good as new, and that's what matters. I can assure you all as soon as I get it back I will post pictures of me hugging it!!!

Update

Ugh. So they were supposed to have all of the sealer stuff for around the window in last Friday. Only a partial order came in. Some more came in today, but not all of it. Apparently, where they order from in the U.S. is OUT of it. And there is none anywhere else in North America.
Fabulous.
So it looks like they'll have to order from Japan.
However, the body shop is going to look in to one other option. They have this graphic design guy (or something) that could try to replicate the seal. If he can do that, they can do that for me temporarily until the rest of the stuff comes in from God knows where...

Sigh.

I'm not even mad anymore...I'm just depressed. My luck is so friggin' bad.

So maybe I'll get the Fit back...ya know......never.

I like that horn blaster. I really think it could give a person with a hart condition an attack. If any one has any info on a horn in that catagory please let me know
