34.3 mpg on my AT Fit!
the most i got was 38.5mpg in my 2010 AT but that was when i still had the stock intake box. with my custom diy i can only reach 34mpg max on the highway
I totally agree with you. I would prefer to drive on the interstate at 65 mph instead of 70 mph, but on that day (Thanksgiving) there was a lot of traffic (round trip between Clearwater FL and Sarasota FL) and I had to drive at 70 mph in order to "keep with the flow." It makes me nervous to have too many cars close behind me. (It was a day for giving thanks, but once on the road, people's rage can take over.)
The brave little engine was doing about 24-2500 rpm. I would rather keep it at low 2000's, when it definitely feels more relaxed.
I plan to keep this little gem for at least three years. That's the length of the extended bumper-to-bumper warranty I got. The warranty was not cheap ($1080) but I think it was worth it. I want a worry-free car.
What was the custom modification you made on your Fit?

Thats not bad, but could be better. An automatic GD3 should get around 38 MPG at an average speed of 70 MPH. Of course, thats if there is no cross winds on a fairly flat route and the tires are inflated to the recommended pressure.
Got my new 2010 S/AT last week. Just got back from a 700 mile round trip to my sister's. Crossed the Siskiyou Mountains twice, snow conditions caused 2 hours of 15mph, accident on I5 caused a 90 minute stop and go to cover 1 mile, had one burst up to 92mph so that I wouldn't get stuck behind someone (we were both stupid; he was slower), went 5 to 10 over whenever possible. Trip MPG was 33.2. I'm happy.
Heard that crude oil prices will go up again. Next time when we, FIT owners, go for a gas fill-up, try to look at the faces (discreetly of course) of those who are filling up their SUVs and trucks.. they keep watching the pump meter prices adding up, up up when they fill up their 80 liters tanks... sweet.... and their jaws dropped.. many are pissed
Took a small trip today... details:
2010 Fit Sport 5AT, 14,000 miles.
temps in the mid 50s
Elevation: 90-600 ft.
A/C on all the way (defrost on to defog windows
5 occupants, estimated total weight 700-750 lbs (two were kids)
140 miles round-trip.
mileage computer corrected ('10 model, so corrected from the factory)
speed: 65-75, with a few miles of city driving at the terminus point in downtown San Jose.
38.1 mpg when I got back
I hear ya. Gas and oil were at similar prices in 2007, when we were told they were high because the economy was cooking. In fact, throughout the mid-part of the last decade (the naughties? Oughts? "O"s?) it seemed that the price of crude was the last numeral in the year x10. It just passed $90/bbl again, and the economy is still stumbling somewhat. What's going to happen if things get back on track... for that matter, will things ever get back on track if the jump in oil prices were such a large part of knocking it topsy-turvy before.
Glad to have a fairly fuel-efficient car, and a more fuel-efficient motorcycle if the shit really hits the fan... as well as an apartment that costs peanuts in utilities ($35/month on average)

except you should be coasting the back end once you hit the top. and btw, ever notice as you go up the skyway you'll be passing all those V8 trucks and such yet the minute you hit the peak they start riding your tail expecting you to go faster?
meh, it's there
sometimes it's fun to use it from a dead start and i gotta merge onto the highway (florida merges ftl). mostly i use it when i need to downshift and pass someone and don't feel like waiting for the "pedal to floor/throttle open response in 3, 2, now" effect
otherwise.....yea i don't really use them all that much now.
but when i first got the car, i accidentally would downshift or upshift because somehow i'd hit the damn things. i think i finally got over that.
What's the paddle for?
I have the base model Fit (2008 AT) so it does not have the paddles. What do the paddles add to the car? If I want afterburners to kick in I shift it to D3.
Krakhed: I know what you mean by trucks bearing down on you as you come down the bridge. Not a good feeling.
One thing I miss in my base Fit is the mp3 player input. To get it retrofitted with an mp3 input costs too much money.

To shift earlier, just hit the paddle for upshift.
To have the car hold the gears longer needs you to be in a specific drive mode. Once you're in that mode, the car only shifts when you tell it (it will auto-shift if you redline or drop the tach too low).
It's almost like having a manual transmission.
We, FIT owners in the North felt being taken advantage of by Honda... My 2010 sports A/T had NO paddle shifters, NO TPMS, NO stability control and in exchange, Honda gave us a set of heated side view mirrors.

I think we paid almost the same price for our FIT compared to our fellow FIT friends in the US
