He said something about not being able to wait because he is supposed to give the contract to the bank right away. UGGGGHHHH. I can't believe I went in there, not intending on getting an etended warranty, and I still stupidly got him to talk me into it. I have never been so damn mad at myself.
they would also have to redo the sales contract.

I got the extended warranty for a piece of mind. IMO I'd rather pay an extra $30 dollars a year and have the warranty vs not having it.

30 dollars a year, even on a 72 month loan = 180 dollar. thats about enough to cover the tax on the warranty.

I agree there is a large buyer beware quotient when it comes to buying a car, but why do people walk into a dealer with the preconception they are going to be taken for a financial ride. If you do your research, and are honest with the dealer, there is no reason for a good dealer not to be honest with you.
One important realization is car dealers are not charities. They are there to make a profit, just like any other business. The only difference is the amount of variables in the car buying equation vice buying a Big Mac. The buyer needs to understand all the variables, so a fair and balanced deal can be struck. The buyer gets the car they want at a price they agree is worthwhile, and the dealer makes enough money from the deal that it is worth selling the car to that customer.
Well, unfortunately, I'm new at this. I did the research I could from my lack of experience. I knew going in I wanted it at $244 a month, 60 month plan and figured I wouldn't need an extended warranty (but yet I had doubts). I don't think the guy intentionally swindled me...I regret making that accusation and it was a poor choice of words. The whole thing just happened very fast...here he was, playing with numbers, talking me into extended warranty...and I wasn't quick to realize he changed the terms to 66 months. That's what occured to me hours later and that's what frustrated me. I am more mad at myself than this guy- he's doing his job and I'm not trying to lambast him. Actually, I liked the guy alot and he was very nice and helpful. But it is a business, and he's gotta make money no matter what. And for a person who's never bought a car, I was easy to work with in that respect.

Geez, like I don't already feel like an idiot as it is. Thanks.
aywwsd, may I ask you for your help then?
If I do indeed have to go back in and start up a new contract...how long do I have to do that? Is it something that I had to do within 24 hours? The guy said something about the interest they'd be paying if he waited until I could come into the office (which wasn't until 3 days later). I appreciate your advice, if you're willing to give it.

And depending on where dotseurat went, I easily believe it. NJ is filled with enormous auto malls competing for business, and it's *well known* the shady things they do to seperate people from their money.

I also can't remember the last time I even touched another car with my door. I do remember climbing through either the passenger side, or rear hatch if I came back to my car, and found some joker had parked so close I couldn't open my driver's side door, though.
When did everything get so bad? If I could, I would probably just stay here.

if there is no cool off period in your state and you took the car already, this is what will happen.
the contract stays the same. 244 (or whatever) for 66 month. you get a check from honda for the amount you paid on for the contract.
or if there is a cooling off period, they rewrite the contract, back to 60 month, for whatever it was before the contract, as if you never bought the contract.

auto sales indeed do have shady people, but we are not all selling our mothers for a nickel.
i have no problem with someone feeling like they get screwed, then go bitch and moan to the person that screwed you, dont bitch and moan about the entire industry.
all we care is about making money??. do i look like the red cross or the salvation army?? i go to work to make money and earn a living. i dont go to work to give something out for free.

Don't feel bad, I sold cars for six months, and the finance guys could still put my head into a spin (although I was younger then, and just doing that only as long as it didn't interfere with my rugby playing). Go back, talk to them, and work it out. Every day is a School Day! Good luck.
Geez... this is exactly what happened to my brother in law... He's in colorado and I need to ask him what he has done about it, I don't trust Phil Long dealers since my car got taken out by the service manager and decided to buy crack in it from a cop... Basically he went in, said he wanted an arieo (not my first choice, but hey, he likes it). They ran his credit, and said the only car on the lot was this premium Arieo SX AWD fully loaded... even tho there were probably 10 new ones and 3 used on the lot of various trims. Then they started in with the payments and down payments. they didn't show him the price of the car until he picked a payment plan and down payment that worked for him. He ended up with the extended warranty, traded in a truck I gave him to drive, and still paid almost $20,000 for the thing, BEFORE INTEREST, AFTER A $1000 DOWN, AND MY TRUCK TRADE IN ($2000).
He also didn't call me until a few days after to tell me he got a new car. I think he realized he got ripped and was embarassed to tell me. I think the colorado cool off period is like 3 business days or 300 miles but don't quote me on that one... He was going to take it back in the next day to see what he could do. But I keep forgeting to bring it up...
The same thing started to happen with my second fit... I walked away from the deal, These dealers know it's a hot car, and they aren't bumping up the price, so they are trying to tack on everything in the world onto the butt end of the contract. That's why I'm still driving the rental car from my accident (until tomorrow, then it's the pontiac again). Totally different from the first fit I bought (may it RIP).

Oh so this is the case of the bad apple spoiling the whole bunch. That's a buttload of bad apples from what I can see.
dont blame the industry, blame him.
