Stebel Nautilus install

Just got done swapping out the hockey puck meep-meep horn for the Stebel Nautilus, what a great sound! Check out the install photos and the video clip of what you'll get blasted with! Might get some attention if it's really needed ! Turned out to be an easier job than I had anticipated, you know how sometimes stuff like this can be a major headache if things won't fit. I paid the extra 19.95 and got the plug n play wiring harness, it's quality stuff. Everything you need is pre-wired perfectly. I only had to strip back the black tubing about 6" near the horn power leads so it would reach the horn. It has big ring terminals that fit perfect on the battery + side terminal and under the - body ground screw. Clip the end off one of the blue harness leads, then crimp it with the splice connector and the stock horn wire. This is a tight area so be careful. I used zip-ties to prevent pulling on the wire connection, you don't want that to break. I placed the relay on the radiator support mount bolt, couldn't find anything else close, but works fine and looks good there.

For some reason I cannot get images to attach, what have I done wrong, used ImageShack like everyone else seems to do but no good......

it's cause you're linking to the wrong thing.

You don't want the address at the top when you're looking at your picture, you want one of the embed options that show up to the right. I recommend embed thumbnail, and from there, copy&paste the text in the box next to "forum."

like this... I added spaces so it would show up as text.

[ URL=http ://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/718/img0277di.jpg/][ IMG]http ://img718.imageshack.us/img718/9979/img0277di.th.jpg[ /IMG][ /URL]

Uploaded with [ URL=http ://imageshack.us]ImageShack.us[ /URL]
gives:

Uploaded with ImageShack.us
yours should look like this... if you quote my messages, you'll see the text also

I took out the bit that "advertises" imageshack.

oh, the forum doesn't support embeding videos (not that you get a forum friendly link anyway).

gkitf16 that looks like a nice install - where did you get the plug and play harness. I've installed the same horn, love it, and had to piece my install together - the harness might have made it a bit easier.
Is that a fused hook-up?

I'll suggest you install a chunk of tubing to the air intake in that horn. You should have gotten an adapter to clip on to the horn to allow it. Route the tubing inside the engine compartment. I ran it in behind the cross piece you mounted the horn to.

It should be high and dry to keep stray water from entering the horn unit. If not you can expect horn failure if it sucks water into it.

Not missing the meep-meep, eh?

Me either_

The Stebel Install

Here's the wiring harness I got to put it in with, definitely worth it $19.95

Amazon.com: Plug-n-Play Wiring Harness for Stebel Nautilus Compact Air Horns: Automotive

Clear, illustrated color wiring diagram even I can't screw up. There's a 40A fuse holder pre-wired, and the power terminals go right onto the battery side lug and ground strap points. Only 1 splice connection to make to your original horn wire. Clip off 1 of the blue spade ends for the splice, add the short ground adapter to the other spade. With the Fit's molded connector, the crimp area is quite short, but works OK. Just be very careful and make certain both wires are positioned properly before you do it.

I'll have to put the intake reroute thingy in and hose it. At least in this config the horn's trumpets are facing backwards so rain won't blow in, but might suck water when the pump runs.

Gotta get a few cosmetic issues taken care of:

Plastic hood release cover - broke one of the corners pulling the buttons out during the surgery. Minor issue

A/T shift trim collar where some dizz-wit gouged up the key pop-out

Clamshell cover around the steering column has a big hole in it . Previous owner had an alarm LED there, Carmax yanked it before I bought her. And the right side near the ignition still has a 1/4" gap where the plastic got warped. I was not happy and let them know it on both items. I pay close attention to these kind of things, I get picky 'bout stuff like that, just looks bad.

dang $20 for that...(?)

the horn should come with a relay and a simple instruction sheet where to hook up what. no need to spend that kind of money on such a simple install imho...

20 bucks isn't bad if your option is figuring it out and pulling it all together. I would have sprung for it in a flash.
