Door Trim - Yea or ney?

As part of a bonus protection package I see I was given door/fender well trim on my 2012 Sport. Not sure if I like the black trim lines on the doors with the OBM finish and not really sure just how much protection they really add.

Are those trim pieces glued on and would there be any damage or residue if I tried pulling them off?

Most of those trim pieces are applied by pulling off a protective sheet from the sticky side - just like double sided 3 M tape. I have several items on my Fit applied with this and have never had an issue. I have the Mugen emblem under my Fit emblem for 4 years and it has never loosened up. Of course if I would attempt to remove I would be concerned about damaging the paint. You do have to look at where the strips are going to be attached as to whether they will really offer you any protection against door dings. For myself, and I show my Fit in car shows in the Import /Tuner classes, have gone 4 1/2 years without any door dings. I park in the back 40 of any parking lot and on the end space if I can. I avoid having to park beside anyone because the Fit will be easy to get dings in if anyone hits your side panels hard. People don't care and are not going to be careful around your car, so I just don't give them the opportunity. Also the trim in my own opinion kinda of breaks up the lines of the car and I like the clean appearance without them however if you are more concerned with preventing door dings then I say put them on.

I added the door trim pieces aftermarket . I thought the black went well with the light blue tidewater. They are 3m stick on. I have also seen them in silver metallic color. I occasionally have kids in the back seats and they track more dirt, so they do help keep interior a bit cleaner. Oops I was referring to the door sill step trim. I thought the side trim could me matched to your car color.

Personally I like how it looks without the trip because like Cat said it breaks the lines of the car. Not really sure how much protection they give to begin with. On the two cars that I've owned, they had the trim but still I had random dings on the side of my car. There will always be that jerk that has no decency to watch what the hell it is that they are doing.

I thought the OP was referring to the door sill trim. I have seen photos of the side panel trim matched to the car color, not black.
I debated getting the trim, but agree it is rare your car would get dinged in those spots. the Fit looks more Sporty w/o that side trim.
My old Subaru came with protective side trim--I am the second owner & have had the car over 11 years and it has never been scratched in the trim area.

Well the trim has already been applied. I really didn't question or know exactly what the "Protection Package" was besides gettng the 1st scheduled maintenance & oil change for free.

However, now I really don't like the door protector trim pieces and would like to remove them but just how forgiving is that 3M adhesive? Should I ask the service dept to remove it? I also agree that they really don't do that much protecting. Of all the cars I owned I never had an issue with nicks on the door edges.

Those pieces (body moulding) are supposed to be color matched to your car, not left black. So if dealer did not install properly, I would ask them to remove. So if they mess up- they can touch up your car.

Not sure if the OP is talking about door mouldings like pictured by the previous poster. I think the OP may be referring to a plastic protector that runs vertically along the door edge, the part of the door that would hit another car if you opened the door into them.
I'm not sure about getting them off though. My guess is using heat (like from a hair dryer) would be a possible option to loosen the adhesive.

Ah,no it's not that type of trim but the door protecting edging as shown in my picture here:

Oh ok. I added some 3m clear door edge guard aftermarket, but mine is not nearly that extensive & is almost invisible. I think you could remove, then use some alcohol or goo gone to remove the residue.

Done deal! I used a spray bottle with warm water and gently pulled the trim away. The adhesive was not nearly as nasty and sticky as I had anticipated and I was able remove the pieces without any issues.

I left the trim strips that were put on over the wheel well alone as they may actually protect the car when its raining and dirt and rocks gets thrown up from the tires.

Much happier now and think the car looks much better without those pieces.
