frusterated man looking for a car to mod and love
Ok so I'm 19 and shipping out for boot camp in less then 2 weeks when I'm in my mos training I want to buy a car I have alwase been a fan of small cars. How ever forgen cars have never really been my thing (as I say this I just realised that I've driven a honda fit before and had it up to 80) so I'mturning here because I'm frusterated with the aftermarket of american cars (or lack there of). Would like to know where some good aftermarket parts are for the fit and if there are any better fourm sgits for the fit (I mean more performance orented like me ) and what is the potenchel of this little car
The only thing that frustrates me is your spelling.
This is hands down the best site for the Fit, but if you're looking for a large aftermarket, you may be somewhat disappointed, especially when it comes to performance options. The GDs have a lot more options than the GEs.
IMO, if you're looking for something fast, look elsewhere unless you are up to doing a motor swap. Do some searches on this website though, there's years of good information.

Diamond Star Monsters is a member here that is full of info on boosting these little jewels. Just check out his threads and don't ask questions that he has answered already because Marine Corps Drill Instructors are like kind understanding grandmothers compared to him when he is annoyed There is some serious internal engine parts being developed more and more but you will need to search for them in existing threads... If you can find a GD3 it's the one to get... I consider mine pretty strong even though it has the OEM engine in it. I have bolted on just about all that can be bolted on to improve performance and have more stuff to bolt on as well... The best thing you can do other than doing a turbo or supercharger is to get some Enkei 15"x7" RPF1 wheels and some 195-50-15 tires..Anything else you do without boost just does nothing except look trick and sound like you are looking for attention...I got a KraftWerks 5PSI supercharger kit when they first came out and upgraded to the 10PSI with ECU reflash, injectors, intercooler and other stuff to optimize what it would do.... Even with the abundance of power that is now on tap it is possible to feel the difference between 12.5 lb 16" wheels w/tires and the 9.5 lb 15" wheels w/tires.
Hey thanks man it looks like a good car and when I saw the spoon fit I assumed there was a big after market for the it I dident even knowabout it untill a few days ago and then I remembered that honda I could not place that my cousen let me drive a few years ago I had a lot of fun in that car but I really want something small practical that I can take to the local 2 mile race track a few times a year and not destroy the car also I want something I can upgradd. Oh and not to sound like a noob but what is a GDs ? And dose anyone elce have any other ideas? If not I'm probably gonna go with an 80's Turbo dodge or something
The 2007-08 models were GD-3s and the 2nd generation Fits are GE-8s. Here is the Forced Induction thread, Fit Forced Induction Forum - Unofficial Honda FIT Forums You would never be able to touch one of the boosted 2.5 liter DSMs with a Fit except on an autocross course... JDMchris has the 1st KraftWerks equipped car and said he was making 212 horsepower... I have pretty much the same stuff on my car as he does on his as far as the engine and exhaust modifications... The 5PSI kit is a lot of fun and I think it is just under $3000... The upgrade to 10 PSI was another $1800 plus you need to replace the entire exhaust system from the cylinder head back... It's insanely loud and people think that you are an asshole with an annoying fart can muffler until you light up the front tires from a dead stop to about 40 MPH in 2nd gear... You end up having to change oil and rotate tires at much shorter intervals which would be difficult to do for an enlisted man in the military... I would suggest just enjoying the car with just lighter wheels and tires because it is still a lot of fun and a very low maintenance car which is what you would really appreciate when you are able to be on liberty... I would have been happy to have had a small displacement motor scooter when I was in the Corps but you had too be an E-4 or higher to even drive on base back then.
Thanks everone for your input I am definetly going to consider one of these cars scince I'm joining the national guard six months from now I won't be on active duty so doing matanance on the car won't be an issue ill be working a normal 40hr a week job. An I'm sorry about my spelling but it is really hard to proof read from my phone and even harder to correct spelling I usally just mess it up more and I don't have home internet and the closest library is 10 miles so this is the best it get for now sorry
For introductory tuning and generally messing with your car for fun and (not) profit, the older Civics are better. A modern car is, I hate to say this, but it's more like a bunch of mechanicals all run by computer. Your ability to alter anything substantial is frequently limited by a computer, and quite complex. Get like a 1996-99 Civic model (including del Sols if you want a convertible!) and there will be no shortage of fun and inexpensive work you can do on it.
Well lets narrow it down like this, how much do you want to spend? The Fit is great but there's really not much for the GE version and there isn't much HP to be had from the L15 engine. If you have enough money I'd say get a MKV VW GTI and get a K04 (turbo) with a Stage 3 tune. There's decent power there and there's a thriving community. Not to be harsh but there isn't much activity on this forum and I really don't blame the people as this car appeals to a certain age range and crowd that doesn't care for going on forums. I bought this car for the great gas mileage but am looking for something with a little more power on the side to drive I'm thinking an S2000 or an M3 to fulfill my needs. When gas hits $5 a gallon which they said it would this summer (even though summer is less than a month away and gas actually went down to $3.51 here) I'll have the last laugh
To just be able to alter the A/F ratio and ignition timing you need to spend close to $900.. Even doing that isn't going to do much without turbo or supercharging....This was a very busy forum until a few months back.. You could be here 24 hours and not be able to keep up with all that was being posted... I guess that everything that can be done for visual appeal and image has been done and the guys doing performance modifications are either communicating privately, have their cars the way they like them....
IS there a tuning forum somewhere for Fit owners? Either specifically for Fits or just a general tuning forum where Fit owners could contribute something?
Completely honestly, I will likely not make any modifications to my car that I can't easily restore (I dislike the risk). But I have fun thinking about it
