Which gen Fit should I buy?

I'm looking for a Fit, with budget being a big concern (so nothing new, and I'm looking at around 12-13k max). The only real requirement is that its a manual (and Orange if at all possible.) I am more interested in cornering ability than straight up power.

Any information would be great (and I'm sure there are questions I need to answer too.) Thanks!

Service records and condition are going to be more important than model year. Either generation is fun to drive while lacking in excess power.

With same records and conditions, is there anything big between the two I should be looking at? Any known issues with either model year that I should look to avoid?

they are both disgustingly reliable.

the 1st gen has many more aftermarket options available if you want to modify the drive train. It's a bit smaller and is reputed to be more tossable.

2nd gen smoothed off a lot of the rough edges.

both gens have limited seat adjustments. They are after all, Honda's entry level econobox. Make sure you're comfortable sitting in one. Many complain about the 2nd gen headrests and cushioning. I think it's pretty well designed. But one size does not fit all.

Sport model comes with alloys and larger wheels, lower profile tires. Also has an extra stiff rear torsion bar for cornering. Depending on model year, the sport has added electronic features, otherwise it's just trim.
