Need new tires for 2009 Base model

I need new tires for my Base 2009 Fit and the Tire shop cannot source the 175/65/15. They have suggested to go with 185/60/15 for more choices. Will this be a good match with my Fit? I don't really know what the numbers on the tires mean and how this may affect performance or even the odometer. I am hoping someone can help me with the decision and also what brand of tires is good? They have Hankook or Michelin or Goodyear. Thank you in advance for advice.

185/60/15 or 185/65/15 is fine, the 60 series is closer to stock diameter, but both aren't far off. How much are they asking for a set installed? Both those sizes should be very cheap... cheaper than the 175/65/15, which has limited choice and most of them aren't very good to begin with.

Brand of tire only tells so much, we need the model to have an educated opinion.

Why don't you just buy the 175/65r15 tires from Tirerack and have them shipped to the shop? Seems like if you can source them then they can too. Bridgestone ecopias are $328 for 4 and Hankook's are $230 for 4. Plus $47 shipping to GA

Tires

Thank you for your replies. Unfotunately, my wheels were not aligned properly and now the tires are in such a condition that they need to be replaced soon, so I don't have the luxury to order online and also the stores here may not be willing to install tires that I bring in. So I need to choose from what they have.

They have Continental (I think it is Contiprocontact model) in the 175/65/15. I have not heard of Continental tire brand so I don't know the quality. They have those in Kauffman Tire. Also, Firestone has the Bridgestone Ecopia for a reasonable price in the same size.

In the 185/60/15, the service centers have Hankook Ultima, Hankook Optima, and Toyo Extensa. They don't even have the Michelins.

When I called the store, some said going with the alternative size was fine, but some said it will increase the gas usage because of the increased width. I would be grateful to hear some recommendations based on the above options, on what tire would be best. Thank you very much in advance!

Tirerack will have them to you, depending on the tire within 2 days. Unless you are on cords, you can last 2 days.

Also, find a different shop if they won't install what you bring in. That's a polite way of saying buy our effing tires so we can get mark up and support our small business.

Actually, I did some work for you. Go to Discount Tire. I've purchased all my tires in the last 10 years from these guys. Great prices, friendly service, and free rotations/tire repair for when I'm being lazy. One is in your town:

The tires they suggested for you will be adequate for common usage. The additional width may increase weight slightly and cause a VERY slight change in fuel economy.

I have 185/65/15 and still get 37 city 40 hwy, I wouldn't worry about it affecting your gas mileage much.

185 makes the car feel so much more stable over the 175. If you do go with the 175 though, Continental is a decent tire brand, so I wouldn't worry about the quality.

195/60R15 has the same rolling radius and is about the widest tire for the stock rim width. These are a super common size with lots of choices. I did go with Tirerack and had Pepboys install. Walmart will also install carryins with no hassle.

Conti is one of the most respected tire companies in the world, no problem there. I went with Yokohama and am completely satisfied so far. The Avid Envigor is low rolling resistance and I have not had a decrease in gas mileage with the wider tire vs stock Dunlops. Cornering is much improved.
