The great thing about having several Fit variants is they can meet several different peoples needs or wants. While some will want to stick with the original, I'm sure some will want the other versions as well. Therefore I see it as a win win for both Honda and us the consumer.

Don't expect that any GE crossover would have AWD. Maybe once they redesign it they'll find room for a center axle and rear diff, but I don't think they'll bother unless they can figure out a way to also produce a version that keeps the Magic Seat. The entire appeal of the Fit, globally, is the massive and usable interior space. Think on the Nissan Juke for a second and realize how much space 4WD takes up ... it's quite substantial :P

Maybe they will do it. Maybe they'll have a separate floor pan for the crossover, giving it AWD and leaving the basic Fit with the interior space. I call it even between that, and only offering a 2WD crossover, which will sell fine in other parts of the world but may not be that appealing in America. One thing I have noticed is, people in the US loooove 4WD. They don't use it of course. But they want it anyway. :P

I never liked the idea of a car that had two drive trains to service but chose to buy a Forester after rolling my tractor over on it's side one morning when pulling my wife's 2wd pickup out of a hole when the driveway washed out after it had rained all night.. I had no road to my place for 30 years and had to have my neighbor use his 4wd backhoe to fill in washouts, grade and level the easement a few times a year.. We would still bottom out and get stuck in the summer when it was dry and you would sink to your ankles when walking on the very fine and loose sand.. My neighbors and I each signed over some acreage to have the county put in an aggregate road . I have since replaced the 2wd tractor with one with a front end loader and 4wd since to make it possible to drive our cars that don't have AWD when there is bad weather and ravines running the length and crisscrossing the drive way.... Th Forester is still the only car I have seen that get up here without the the tires breaking loose and creating a dust cloud or leaving ruts when the ground is wet...Some Americans that live off of the beaten path do need 4 wheel drive, but a lot that don't own them too.. Mostly Land Rovers popping up around here in recent years..

But if they want AWD/4WD in a similar package with a Honda badge, I think that they will likely go with a CR-V.

Well, they have no SX4 to worry about anymore. haha

Didn't the first gen get awd in Japan? Could swear I've heard that before, but too lazy to fact check right now.

Yes Hayden they did... I read about them on a Japanese Honda website a few years before they began importing Fits here... You could have a Fit like that or any other imported here but the price was insane...
