Disabling Accident, No Frame Damage

I'm considering buying a Fit. Carfax says it was in a "Disabling" accident (and had to be towed away) but that the airbags didn't deploy and that there was no frame damage. What should I make of this? How concerned should I be?

I'm out-of-state, so I won't be able to test it in person. How comprehensive is a (3rd-party) inspection? Thanks.

Hard to say, I don't know of any guidelines for automotive inspectors. Anyway don't use one recommended by the seller. If the seller refuses to let your appointed inspector check the car, don't buy it.

go to Car Talk and select the mechanics files tab at the top. On the next page, enter the zip code where the car is located and contact one of the recommended mechanics in that area to look at the car. My mechanic charges $95 for an hours worth of investigation.
