when to trade in?

i just got an email from a dealer in my area who wants my car. "big secret" email stuff.

the email offers great deals on their inventory and blah blah blah. i am not a happy fit camper due to my paint problems and my gas mpg problems.

i am just wondering when is the right time to trade in a car? i was thinking of getting the fit in standard. most NY'ers dont like standard, so there may be one available.
the versa, the civic (first choice, best mpg.). or the scion.

also i am scheduled to have my hood painted next week due to peeling. and they are checking my mpgs. should i get rid of the car right after this when it still looks like new? should i trade it in before the paint job? i hate letting this car go. it drives on the highway (when i drive highway) like a race car. fit is go. but i cant deal with 20-22 mpgs and the dealer isnt taking it seriously.

i have 3500 miles on it and a scrape on my rear bumper. thanks to someone who cant pull out of a parking spot.

I'd say the value should hold quite well for the next few months. As for repainting, how much are they paying now vs a freshly painted one (of course, taking into account the cost of the touchup)?

I too am getting very poor gas milage with my fit....i am also considering trading my car in for something else.
i live up here in vancouver, British Columbia, canada...i just hit the 3000kms mark on my fit. i paid a total of $22,500 taxes in (CDN).
my brother who works for acura said i could probably get 16g's for it .
i might just keep it for a year til i break even.
what do you guys think

thanks for any opinions

i would think that if you really want to get rid of your car, you should be able to sell it for pretty much what you bought it for. you can tell potential buyers "look, you can go buy a brand new one and wait 3-6 months. or you can buy mine with 3500 miles and drive home with it today."

other than that, nobody can really tell you guys what to do with your car. my opinion, if you really like the car, at least give the dealer a chance to fix whats wrong with it. you already know that anytime you deal with any dealer you may have to raise hell just to get things rolling, so it shouldnt be a surprise.

i deffinatly do not recommend that you trade your car back in to the dealer. you will take a big time loss.

I call bull. If that's the best a dealership is offering, sell it privately.
A 2007 Fit LX should fetch 20k CAD.

A car is a depreciating asset, it will only drop in value. As such, there's no 'break-even' point, especially when dealing with Canadian Fit pricing.

i am really torn. i love the handling but if a Honda paint job cant hold up to the elements (so i was told by regional manager in not so many words) he said "my paint problems were due to acid rain". hello? should i drive it wraped in plastic.

they agreed to fix my hood and bumper but wouldnt even look at the roof. - the hood is scratched and kind of chiping. others are having this problem too.

as for my gas problem they dont seem to be taking that seriously. i am going to call honda customer service today.

also i have this mark on my dash from where i wanted to put my sirius radio - the alcohol pad took the paint right off. they told me "oh you were told never to use that kind of stuff on the dash". no one told me anything. there is nothing in the books about it either. hell i have never ever had this kind of problem with a car.

i have owned a chey super sport with a 440 engine to a brand new 1972 VW bug to a brand new mazda 626 to a few others in between and this guy says -"is this your first new car?" is this your first dark car? are we making you feel like a stupid woman yet?

i think you should have called honda customer service sooner. not just for youself but for all of our sakes. next time they bring up the acid rain thing, get sarcastic with them and say something like "well, i guess my car got some acid rain, but somehow all of the nice cars on this lot mysteriously avoided it."

and fyi, alcohol is damaging to any painted surface, not just the fits crappy paint. i found that out the hard way too.

What are you driving? Standard, auto, sport, etc? What colour? I live in North Vancouver and am thinking of getting a Fit. What mileage are you getting and how is your paint?

Cheers.

Sport Auto, Alabaster Silver, 25 MPG, paint peeling a bit from the rear bumper, but it's no big deal to the self-inflicted pancake sized parking lot scrape. That rear bumper is going to need a full repaint anyhow...

25 MPG comes from travelling from Macdonald and 19th to downtown daily (short trip with 18 traffic lights)

FYI, called again yesterday about this problem because i noticed it on my roof, they said they never heard of this problem before on the "black". i said imposible - i know there have been calls on this problem due to this site. she said well i said there have been now problems with the "black".

what is wrong with these people? apparently only people with other color cars are calling in. most people dont come to fit freak and dont call honda america. we are a rare breed. they dont have much respect for us either. i did tell them i lived on a block with many new cars (all makes an models) none seem to have a problem with acid rain.

she was just nasty and didnt really care about my problem. didnt care if i went to another make and left honda all together. said my low gas milage was due to using costco gas. so i have to pay more for gas to get better gas miliage - what is the point?

Careful, years ago I had a Camry station wagon and would get "offers" on it all the time, had two different dealers dangle a Mercedes 300 coupe and another a 420SEL in front of me. Then, I talked to the local Toyota dealer who had a customer waiting list as long as my arm for one, so I kept the car.

But, in this case, I think they see you as someone to sell a new car to to make some $$ and maybe they think "your" Fit problems will no longer be a pain in their side?

read consumer reports. they have given the most honest review i have ever read about this car.

they report 23 mpg in the city. i am so glad i am not crazy. i have stopped worrying about my gas consumption and started to enjoy my car.

i get 21-23 mpg. all city driving. stop and go all the way. it does much better in highway tests. they give it 30 something all around.

not to worry cause all the cars in this class performed just as badly.
