Forget it, I found a way to manually override the power switch on the hatchback doorlock.

Do you care to share that information with us? It might be useful to someone someday.

I never even realized this could be a problem. Would love to hear the workaround.

I know in the ge8 there's a procedure in the owner's manual. some kind of switch on the tailgate that's usually covered by a plastic panel.

On an 07-08, on the inside of the rear hatch, there is a rubber plug. Remove this plug. Inside there is a lever. Push this lever to the side. This will unlock the hatch. Open the hatch as normal from the outside. This is explained better in the little book that comes with Fits. Don't know about 09s forward.

I think you guys overlooked the obvious. Throw a set of jumper cables from another vehicle on the Fit battery. You will now have power to unlock the hatch. You could also use a jumper pack.

Seems to me the obvious and simple thing is a manual switch you can flip to unlock it. Like the one Steve posted.

I didn't know then. Now, thanks to Steve's post, I do. And it's simple. I expected there would be a straightforward manual method.

The "obvious" was aimed at the jumper cable suggestion.

I believe his original posting said it was a dead battery issue.
