Towing

I saw a few threads dated a few years ago about the towing capacity of the usdm and cdm models. I'm interested in getting one of these cars but the deal breaker is towing. I have a 200lbs trailer and 400lb race bike to tow as well as tools etc. Will I blow the tranny on this car or would the 2015 be a better choice?
Thanks guys

You should be able to tow no problem. Below is a quote from another member that gives a good explanation. There's also several threads on this forum regarding the subject.

The Fit manual stating no towing is more a liability disclaimer than anything. Think "Ford Explorer phobia" about towing. U-Haul will still not rent a trailer to be pulled by an Explorer. USA is too sue happy so this is the easiest way for Honda to claim no responsibility.

The exact same Fit that ships from Japan to other countries has a 1,000 lb rated towing capacity. In the end I think it would be very hard for Honda to deny a warranty claim once you presented the arbitrator with this evidence.

All four major trailer hitch manufacturers make a bolt on Fit hitch rated for 2,000 lbs. Keep your total traielr GVWR (trailer weight + cargo weight) well below 1,000 lbs and you won't have an issue."

+1. I've been towing a Harbor Freight 4x8 utility trailer with wood, furniture, etc. all over the place recently with no problem. Just keep the total loaded trailer weight under 1,000lbs and you shouldn't have any problems.

I've hauled all sort of crap on my 5x8 trailer with my Fit, just take it easy and give plenty of room to brake.

Mine's a manual, it's a bit hard on the clutch, but the transmission's probably happier than an auto would be.

I have a ScanGauge, and don't notice any temperature increase in the engine when towing, even over long distances.

You will want to keep the tongue weight low though -- I had a load of about 2000lbs of logs on the trailer once and had to stop to redistribute the load. The tongue weight was too high, and the rear suspension was bottoming out over bumps.
