So I've done a fair research about towing a trailer within CA state laws etc. But I need some real experience about how the process of registering it in CA goes.
I've read that I would need the MSO, the receipt, and VIN# when I register at the DMV. Correct me if I am wrong.
If any of you are curious it'll be a class 1 habor freight trailer(less than 2000 pounds). And I'll be towing a motorcycle around. Info would be greatly appreciated
I thought all the trailer hitches are mainly for bicycle carriers and not really to tow a trailer since the manual explicitly warned against trying to tow anything on the GD model. Has any tried? Safe to do it?

you have revived a fairly old thread to ask a question that has been answered numerous times in other threads ... maybe try a search next time ?
afaict, there are plenty of folks who have towed using the usa-fit - and yes, they did it safely... if you want more info (like what extra equipment they might have added to ease the strains), try searching...
challenge accepted, so i will document all my attempts (briefly) below...
1) as you mentioned, i went ahead and tried the single word --towing-- and got 496 results with nothing looking promising on the first-page of 25... hmm...
ok, the first one is where _I_ was interested in purchasing a trailer-hitch from someone (who, btw) i never caught up with... lol... whereas the second one is going to be a nice long 10-page read with references and pictures... im fairly sure i read that thread, and maybe some of its links, in its entirety - because it was interesting... the posts are from 2012, so the fit is either 1st gen or 2nd gen (i dont remember, atm) - but what i DO remember is that he (and prolly a different thread, it was a SHE) were able to tow successfully...
hopefully that will get you started, in particular, start with that last-link which i will repeat again...
and, from memory, the one item i was remembering is useful-to-add is a supplementary cooler to the engine-compartment/radiator... forgotten the details, but im sure that they are here somewhere - because i dont have a good-enough imagination to make that up...

ETA - less snippily, the way that i found/chose that link was by going to the thread-i-linked earlier and then scrolling down a bit where FitStr says they are going to subscribe-for-updates and then links that-thread, claiming that it has some good info... i clicked that link, to see if it mentions the year and the answer was right there at the top...
now, to be fair, maybe you just dont realize that the way to do research is to actually read the articles - or at least skim them - and if your answer is not there, then to click on some likely-looking links - or try to think of some other ways of asking your questions (like using trailer and hitch in a search-term) that might yield more fruitful results... o.O h.
pps - sorry, apparently im still snippy... the last-page of the first-link i gave you had bassguitarist and his awesome threads on it - hence the END of articles and the BEGINNING are kinda where you want to start your research, but dont be afraid to actually scan the first full page of results... sigh...

the next link i will provide shows an 07 (yes, the correct series this time... oops) fit which was towing perfectly fine according to all the replies... where did i find THIS link ? when looking back over my own post just now - i looked at the bottom and there were --related-threads-- listed and i realized that the 09 was actually second-gen, like my 13 fit... however, one of those related-threads specifically mentioned the 07 - and assuming that your GD-sport in manual-transmission, then you wont even want/need the transmission-cooler...
now, let me ask YOU a question... are you actually going to DO any towing with your fit ? or were you just curious ? personally, i have not needed to do any towing, but i wanted to have the info in-hand... if you get around to actually doing some towing, would you be so kind as to write-about your experiences ?
No worries hfelton, I have thick skin. Snip away, overall your snippiness/guilt/snippiness/guilt combo provides a wealth of data for me and other members. I simply accept that this is your process and bow to your wisdom.
Thanks for the latest link. I would never try to tow cargo that may weigh more than the GD3 (namely that uhaul trailer filled with bricks). Glad to see some people could.
I want to tow a small tire trailer on my GD3 as 4 track tires/rims won't fit easily into the trunk with my other track stuff. But the 2008 Honda manual warns explicitly against towing. I found a nifty site that has several tow hitches for sale at reasonable prices, but I wanted to see what others did. Also there's the whole matter of the electronics connector box for the hitch. I'm familiar with the transmission cooler trailer hitch combo on the Honda Odyssey, but that van was built to tow some stuff. I'm just glad I didn't see any posts about being thrown off the road while towing something on a gusty freeway. I guess I could always try to put the tires on a roof rack of some sort, that would be interesting as it would make me so top heavy.
hey-ho, glad to help - and when i was looking over some of your other responses in other threads i realized that you DO know what-the-heck youre doing on cars (more than me, for sure) - and i was being a dolt... whatev - it is all good - and maybe this thread will show-up for others someday, as you said... proving that all-generations of fit have towed safely, whether the manual says you should do so or not...
have fun at the track !! i used to ride and was planning to go to a track-day, but got sidelined many moons ago...
btw - i imagine that there might be some horror-stories from towing available... however from the threads ive read - the worst was just some skittishness on the freeway and the standard braking-distance issues... so, stay safe and dont worry about it since an 07 vehicle is probably out-of-warranty anyways... 8-)
