So true, My last manual was 1990, took me a few days to get used to it again and now its almost second nature to me, more relaxed on hills as well. Was on a steep hill tonight and killed it once because an idiot stopped on my bumper and I didn't want to bump him, but I got it the second go....lol
Thought the Fit had hill assist or whatever Honda calls it?
The adjustable steering column is a good help on the MT. I drop the steering wheel to it's lowest position. That puts my steering hand closer together with my shifting hand. Much more comfortable that way. However, this blocks my view of the speedometer. But I can see the tachometer in full. So, I kind of know my speed from the RPM's and which gear I'm in.
My older brother just traded in his 370 Z droptop on a Golf R. (I cant keep up with his cars)...his has the DCT, but can't wait to drive up there and take it out for a drive, sounds like a REAL fun hatch. 😎

that's cool, congrats to your brother. yah, my mk7 GTI is DSG and it's alright for the most part as a dd.. it is fast too but just not engaging as id like.
i did the short shifter and bone insert (tranny/engine mount insert) on my 6MT Golf-R and the shifts feel pretty awesome now.
apparently not on the Manual 08 sports? unless its called an E-brake...lol
yah, my 08 GD did not have hill assist. actually my STI and R both have it but i disabled it. it makes me stall cause i dont expect the brakes to be holding the car when i apply light throttle to start moving on an incline. im old skool
basically i hold the brake with my right foot and blip the throttle with the side of my right foot just as the light turns green and start moving. no need for hill assist. even on a steep incline i rather use the manual e-brake handle..
which is another issue i have on my R.. the R's e-brake is a switch.
i wouldn't have bought the fit if the MT wasn't an option. I beg to take it a step further: the car that doesn't offer a MT, and still has a petrol engine, is dead :P ..

I bought a Fit because of the manual transmission. Many of my friends questioned it. What about traffic jams? Won't you hate shifting thru slow traffic?
I'm working through the 7+ pages of this thread and thought I'd comment on this. It's been mentioned quite often and really I don't have a problem driving in traffic with a MT. Just a couple of days ago I was coming back into the LA area and I got into LA a bit late. Got into the middle of LA ~4pm on the 405. The last 20 miles I did in over 3 hours. I didn't have a problem driving the MT. The secret I thought was to allow 2-3 car lengths in front of you and learn to read the conditions in front of you. Sure VERY few people will switch lanes and get in front of you, but I found they were mostly transferring over, either right or left. Many didn't stay in front of me. Furthermore I didn't think this was a problem cause ALL lanes were creeping along. It didn't matter if you swapped lanes or not.
Also I'm driving a Fit cause 1. they come with MTs. 2. get great gas mileage. and 3. nice amount of storage space and flexibility.
Here's ours. A good friend made one for his GE and I coerced him into making a second. Tried, but couldn't get a third out of him. Has a great feel. Adds some weight up top to help move the Mugen shifter a bit quicker. Solid billet aluminum FTW!
Looks like a have some cleaning to do. Things getting dirty sitting in the garage somehow.
Just got my 2017 Fit with a 6 speed. I got it because there were so few made and I am sure that this one will be a collectable :-). Now all I have to do is keep it in storage for 50 years and it should be worth what I paid for it. But honestly I got the manual so I can tow it behind my motorhome, or that's the story I am using for now.
