My Dealer Called Me!

Got a call from the local dealer where I bought my 2010 Fit-- Said they are in need of used Fits and asked if I wanted to get a new 2015.

I told them I was not interested since my car will be paid off next May, I still LOVE the car and it has only 33 K miles!
Plus I plan to retire next October and did not want to incur any more debt.

I'm with you on this. My 2009 Fit will be paid for next summer and I have 34,000 miles. I plan on keeping it for a looong time.

Yeah, my dealer sends me stuff all the time stating exactly that. Just their way of generating sales. Since they know they can sell used Fits a lot easier than new, they promote it heavily.

My Fit's been paid off for a while and I do not want any car payments, either. (As cool as the new '15's are).

Not only do I get offers for my '08 Sport all the time, they seem to follow me around the country, as do come-on service offers. Just got a $25 free coupon for use at Honda of Roseville (Cali) tho I'm living in the midwest.

I am lucky- My office is across the street from my home, so I can walk to work.
I took a 4500 mile cross country trip in 2010, the first year I owned my Fit

I'm also lucky in that I have a company vehicle that I bring home every day and they also pay for the fuel.

A tank of gas will easily last me a few weeks in the Fit

Y'all are slacking. I have 53,000 on my 2011! It would be over 60 if I hadn't bought a second car as a toy.

Interesting that your dealer is looking for Fits. Our local Honda dealer could care less about them. They only have 2 in stock, they are hard to find on their website, and they don't promote them. Strange dealer.

I worked for Cale Yarborough Honda for a while. We told people crap like that all the time too hahaha. And that we didn't make any money on selling new cars! That we only made money selling used cars. COULDNT BE ANY FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH!!!!

car salesmen suck...

they should just ask if you might be interested in the 2015 and come on down, check it out... say hello, chit chat, have a free drink, popcorn, etc.

Actually they really do want the GE fits. They are selling like hotcakes for those people who cannot afford or not able to loan out for a brand new fit.

Ive seen a local honda dealership sell a 09 fit sport with 58k miles for over 12 grand. That is ridiculously high!

I actually think my dealer wants used Fits. This is the 3rd time in the 4 years I have owned my Fit that they have asked me if I wanted to trade in the car.
I don't think they do this for all cars they sell. Whn I bought my Fit in 2010, I was looking for a used GE and none were to be had

Perhaps the folks that are being asked to sell their used Fits ought to price their cars to the dealer at a point that is just a couple hundred shy of what a new Fit costs---and stick to your guns. And be sure to tell them that they must pay for and take all the asscessories that you put into the car.

Give 'em a taste of their own medicine.

You might just walk away with a new Fit for peanuts.

They always tell you they want your car and that's what they really need. Then give you some low ball offer on the hope that you like the new car smell of the 2015

I have received those type requests for all the newer cars I have owned during the past 10-12 years. I took 2 cars to dealers to sell outright. they offered low wholesale prices for a well used car even though the cars I wanted to sell were very clean and in excellent running condition.

I am not even tempted to go back to the dealer to see anything new. This 2010 Fit was my first new car since we bought a 1972 Datsun and it is almost paid off.
I do not like the smell of car payments--am not the type of person who needs to get a new car every few years.

I do like Morgantruce's idea, but doubt any dealer would pay top dollar.

"The mint-green foam dice hanging from the rear view mirror, dancing hula girl on the dash, spin-knob on the steering wheel, deluxe curb feelers, and matching fender skirts are all recent additions to this beautiful Nash---and I'm not taking any of it off. I expect you to offer a generous trade-in value for this very special set of wheels..."
