Reasonable: Wheel repair costs?

We have terrible potholes in Central NJ, which are impossible to miss on the busy roads and do major damage to tires.

Today I had to replace one front rim and one tire on my 2012 Honda Fit.

The local Honda dealership charged me 323.60.
1 42700-TK6-A01 42700 W-Disk (15x5 1/2J) @ 152.03
1 TX 9228420-42751 175/65/15 DUN [DUNLOP] SP31 84S BW @ 114.00
Plus 20.00 labor and 1.50 NJ state tire tax.
Disposal fee of 15.00
For a total of $323.60

I'm wondering if you guys think this is fare, or if it is better to shop around in the future?

Thank you,
Eryn

u paid that much for a steelie? that must have been one big pothole to dent a steel wheel.

A replacement wheel from a salvage yard should be less. You may save a little on the tire at a tire store, but they may not have a matching tire. I wasn't able to get a match at a tire store several years ago.

Most damaged wheels can be repaired. The last one I had repaired (17" alloy) was $125

The disposal few was more than I paid in NC, but that fee is set by the state.

You may have saved $25-$50 by going for a used wheel and a similar unmatched tire. So, how much is your time worth?

if it is a steelie, remember that they are nearly the same for the last 20 years or so. honda drilled half the holes bigger to offset added weight from the tire pressure sensor.

Go get a steelie for 10-20 bucks, and have the tire installed, and have them balance it.

Should be able to buy rim and tire for under $100 and have a place mount tire and balance for under $40
