Question CV Axle/ CV Joint replacement/ where to get parts.

Hey guys,

New here to the forum so if i am posting this in the wrong area, my apologies. I just have a questions about the fits cv joint or axle.

Long story short my mechanic is having trouble finding the parts to fit my 2009 honda fit. He said it needs a new cv axle on the driver side. The way he descriped this to me though sounds like it's actually the cv joint.

My questions:

Are CV Joints and CV axles the same thing?

Where do you guys buy all of your parts, what is a good brand/website to buy from?

What are some places to avoid buying from?

I really need reputable parts because i don't want to waste my money on cheap crap.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks!

Most replacements are a complete cv axle assembly. You can purchase them new or reconditioned. I looked up one at O'reilly. It costs about $78 plus core charge.

I don't know your location, but any good auto parts store should be able to locate a cv axle for your car. Your Honda dealer parts can also find one.
Assuming you are in the US, I know several states have a Cullman, I'm surprised your mechanic cannot find the part you need.

Rockauto.com has then $44.00 to $64.00 plus refundable core return.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm not sure why he's having a hard time finding the part either. I've found quite a few cv joints for sale thru newegg and then other places. And then I've found some cv axles thru Google search. I think he is mostly concerned about ordering cheap parts that won't hold up.

but regardless he told me to order my parts online and he would install them for me.

I just looked at the O'Rilley link you gave me and it says it's out of stock online.

I'm from a small town in alabama named cullman so I don't know that they carry it at the store. I'm sure my mechanic has called them to find out if they have it.

Will they order specific parts that you need if they don't have it?

Also are the parts different for the sport versus the base model?

Sorry I have a bunch of stupid questions I just want to make sure I order the right thing.

I just looked up your town and there are 6 chain type auto parts stores in your town. Go to one or more of them and they will get the part for you.

I know there are auto parts stores here... but if my mechanic couldn't find the part my thoughts are can I find the parts? It seems like my mechanic would have called these stores to see if they carried them or can even get them....

That's why I wanted to know what places to buy from online and the best brand to buy and what website is reliable because my mechanic was wanting to send me to the Honda dealership because he couldn't find anyone that had the part.

Wow, small world. I used to live in Cullman and my family is still there. The best part would of course be the mosy expensive and bought at a Honda dealership. I would buy from autozone or advanced ap if dealers' price was too steep. Call yourself, sounds like your mechanic didn't try hard enough.

I think you need to call or stop by the stores yourself. According to Rock Auto on line Cardone is rebuilding them and they are in stock . Cardone is a major supplier to most of those chains.

Ask NAPA, Advanced, or Autozone. I'll bet one of them will get the part for you. Or you could just order it on line from Rock Auto. I buy lots of parts from them and they usually have a good selection of brands available. Most parts arrive here in 2 or 3 days. I have had a few arrive in one day.

Most of the local parts dealers will get the part overnight if they don't have it in stock.
Your Honda dealer probably wouldn't have it in stock. They will also order it for you, it
may take a little longer than overnight.
