Erratic Gas Gauge

I noticed this a.m. when I first started up the fuel gauge it was at E and the light was on. This is all fine and normal and I don't have issue there. But, then after about driving a couple of miles needle inched away from E.
Light was still on. First time I've noticed this when reaching E.
I would expect it to reach E and light be on that it will stay at E or lower.
So I continued to drive until it reached E again the filled up. It took over 10 gallons. I typically fill 9+ gallons since I was used running to station as soon as I saw light and it was at E.
Only thing I can think of is that light comes on and I was on an incline which put it at E ????

Anyone else?

I would have to agree that your car being at an incline is what caused the guage to be inaccurate.

yeah nothing to worry about. only if it goes from empty to full or something like that, then you should get it checked/fixed.

I've seen the needle inch back up a little even on flat ground (which is pretty much all we have here), and I think when the tank is really low vapors build up enough to change the pressure and move the float. After a few miles the needle dropped back down and the low fuel indicator came back on. It seems to light up when the fuel is down to a little over two gallons (about 8.5 - 8.8).

If it flickers back and forth or, as above, goes empty-full, then there is a problem. Inclines do this also, my entire property is on a hill, so I notice the same.

Incline = inaccurate gauge reading. Happened in every car I ever had.

I always fill up my tank when its 1/4 empty and never run it dry to E. I think its good to have some gas to cool the pump.
