Locksmith or new lock for door?

Hi,

My driver's side door lock isn't working; it gradually became unusable.

A locksmith said he could put new wafers in for $75, and if it needs a new lock he could do that for $150.

What I'd like to know is - because this lock design is a bad design by Honda, will I end up having to pay for a new lock eventually? And I guess that lock will also go bad after 5 or so years....? (He did say he would replace the wafers with a different kind of wafer, which would last longer than the Honda wafers).

thanks a lot, Honda....apparently they've been using this lock design for years

Thanks for any feedback!

are you talking about the actuator or the tumbler(?) ? i dont use the tumbler lock since the car has power locks, but if i did, i would lube it from time to time.

I don't have power locks, so I guess it is the tumbler? In any event, lubricator does not help; there is something wrong with the mechanism inside. I'm surprised I did not get more replies; my research on the internet indicated this was a common problem with Fits. Thanks for taking the time, though.

hummm..but it wasnt' like that from the getgo, right? i mean, if it was, you would've taken it in for warranty repair.

i dont' know about others, but most cars in the USA comes with bare essentials like power locks, windows, and a/c usually unless it's some special value package.

Do yourself a favour and get a new ignition key cut as well, if you are still using the original. I went through 3 locks and an ignition cylinder before they told me to get a new key....they wear quickly and cause a bunch of damage to the tumblers.

For power door locks, try the dealer and for those which doesn't have power door locks, consider hiring a locksmith.

If the problem is in the ignition then there is no need to get a new key. Ask an auto locksmith to rectify the problem of the ignition so that keys will work fine,

Occasional lubrication of the locks is a real good idea. This is made specifically for that.
