Tailgate damage from bumper-bumper collision, is it possible?
I rear-ended a 2012 model jazz recently at very low speed and her owner claimed that this large dent on the tailgate was from the accident and wanted me to pay for the repair. The actual vehicle is pictured below. I asked for an assessment by a panel beater and have not yet received anything.
The bumper heights match between the two cars involved (mine being a 1995 Nissan Sunny), with the dent at least 4-6 inches above my bumper height. Nor was there any damage to either car's bumpers apart from some minor scuff marks (visible in the picture to the left of the bumper). Hence I figured it is quite unlikely that the dent was created during the accident.
I shall freely admit responsibility for the collision, however I don't quite accept the other party's allegations. Dear Fit owners of the forum, do you think my thoughts are reasonable, or have you had similar experiences to prove otherwise? Many thanks in advance.
