Cracked touchscreen

Cracked touchscreen
I own a 2016 honda fit (3 months old) and I stupidly cracked the touchscreen on the dash while putting a piece of lumber in my car. I went to the honda dealer and they quoted me over $4000 to fix it. Does anyone have any knowledge on this? Is it worth it shopping around for a better deal?

$4K is a lot for that head unit....that's 20-25% of the new vehicle cost. Whoa.
Unless you really love the stock head unit, I'd be considering an aftermarket replacement. Chances are you'll get better functionality than your stock unit, and come in way under your $4K replacement quote. Unless you get a really high-end replacement, should be able to stay under $1K including installation.

If you go aftermarket, the garnish from metra is the only thing close to fitting the dash from what ice researched. If you go aftermarket with say a pioneer, then you will lose the backup and lanewatch camera. I beleive you will also lose the trip computer and clock function as well.
In theory to retain at least backup camera function, you would have to disconnect it from the gauge cluster control module which is accessed by the head unit through the canbus and directly connect the camera outputs to the head units. Some adapting may be required though. Lanewatch if your aftermarket head supports two camera function the same procedure would apply, but likley the aftermarket headunit (i only looked at pioneer) doesnt have a trigger function to activate lanewatch when the blinker is activated.
Ive done a lot of research on this, unfortunately the OEM HU has good hardware, but the software is intenionally bricked and UI is sluggish and slow. Least we can unlock it while driving to have full functionality.

Or do a 1 time fix gesture.

Wow...
Older post, but 4 grand to replace that head unit?
Well thanks for the warning.
Guess I'll be upping my "Be Careful" around the touch screen quotient.
Wonder how the OP approached the situation?
If I'm going to invest over 4 grand into a vehicle....just to keep it OEM factory?
It's a nice touch screen, with nice functionality...but I'd be hard pressed to make that investment.

But at that cost?
If Insurance doesn't cover it, it almost forces you to look at an aftermarket choice.
