Using a Honda Fit for towing behind my motorhome

Hi all from sunny and warm Arizona.

I bought a 2017 Fit EX with the manual transmission for towed behind my motorhome. I will be showing you what I have to do.

Mounting Car Tow Plate
Electrical Wiring the rear lights
Steps for car transmission and other things before rolling on all 4 wheels.

I will be updating over the next few weeks as I will be doing all the work myself and here is a few videos of what is planned.
If you have any questions ask away.

The attached picture is the wire and isolating diode packs I will use to insure that the motorhome 12 volts don't get into or damage the Fit circuit's. More later

Iggy

UPDATE 5/5/2017

Bought a 2017 Honda Fit EX instead of the Basic LX model.
For the few extra dollars it was worth the extras.
Nicer tires and rims and like the non-key entry and startup.
Moon roof is cool. Wife was happy and that's all that matters.

I'm going to keep this thread active as I go because many people buy the Fit for towing behind their motorhomes.

Some of the towing MODS I have planned is installing a TOW PLATE onto the front frame to attach it to my motorhome towbar.

I will also be wiring the rear lights to the motorhome.

I will also be doing a checklist for the proper procedure preparing the can and transmission for towing on all 4 wheel down as they call it.

Here is a great video on how I will be mounting the tow plate to the front frame.

Stay tuned.

Here is some more information about what you have to do before towing.

For Manual transmission ONLY you need to use your KEY (LX model) or the Power Button (EX Model) to place the car in Accessory Mode.

This I think is to unlock the steering wheel but have found it also keep the head unit screen al the time. I solved this by removing Fuse # 37 (7.5 amp) during towing. I may in the future install a fused bypass switch.

Here are a few statement from my Owners manual and Quick Reference manual.
