What is this blinking red light?

Hi folks
Just picked up a new 2017 Fit EX and figured out all the little things I need to know but even the dealer couldn't tell me about this blinking red light.

It goes off when the car is running but when off it blinks every 3-4 seconds.
Is this just a radio security deterrent to tell thieves don't break in or what?

Thank you

Blinking light on radio = radio theft deterrent warning, as though factory radios are a hot item any more.

Blinking light on dashboard = car alarm indicator (at least on the 2nd generation). The built-in alarm is very, very basic. It's armed by locking with the key or the key fob, and disarmed by unlocking with the key or key fob or (I think) starting the car with the key. If a door is opened when it's armed or unlocked from the inside, the horn beeps and lights flash. If it is the alarm, it has a couple different blink patterns: the faster blink for the first half minute or so are when it is arming, and a slower blink, once every few seconds, is once it's actually fully armed.

Thanks all. I figured it would help a thief find it in the dark before he rips it out of the dash.

I know if it loses power you have to reset it with a security code.
Is that correct for a 2017?
Thanks again.

I find that my stock head unit eventually goes back to normal, without having to enter the radio code, if power is disconnected.

You can get the radio code in advance. I have it noted down in case I ever need it. They sent an email so now it's archived and I can quickly search for it.

FYI, for the EX touch screen HU of the GK, you don't necessarily need the security code. These HU's are unlocked by the CANBUS system of the car. if its locked, then startup the car, and hold the power button for 2-3 seconds, and you will hear a beep. It should be unlocked then. The CANBUS transmits the VIN# of the car to the HU which allows it to be unlocked.

I was just asking the question because I read it.
You are correct on your solution about holding in on the HU power button.
I see you are the reason why this forum is so popular.
Thank you for your past and probably future help.
