Summer road trip in 2012 Fit. SoCal - AL - NJ and back!
About to depart on a round trip to NJ from California, while visiting the family in Alabama.
Have 16 days. Car has 72,000 miles. Tires are stock, originals! But I am carrying an extra full size spare. Have tools, swimming shorts, slippers, national park pass, Rand McNally old school road atlas.
Sunscreen, sunglasses. Credit card, cash. Enough clean clothes for the entire 16 days.
Have tools, jumper cables, pump. Camera!! (oops, just remembered to pack the tri-pod).
We've driven our '09 all over the country. Engine gets a little "soft" at higher altitudes so don't be surprised. Now I just downshift and don't worry about it, but it got my attention the first time. It's a ,fine little car for the long haul, except for the noise.
When do you plan to get to NJ? Maybe we can have a meet up with the TFC Northeast chapter.
thank you for the invite. Would have been fun. Unfortunately my schedule is go8ng to be t8ght whike in NJ. Its a lot of miles to cover in only two weeks.
The car did 44 mpg by the meter driving at 70 mph.
At 60, the meter was showing over 46 mpg.
Got new front tires installed today. 74 k on original dunlops.
Got alignment checkedand all was in perfect spec except left rear was slightly toed in. But not enough to cause uneven wear w my 10k rotaions. Rears are not adjustable anyway. Brother who works at an acura dealership did the work for me today. So thankful.
Thanks all for good wishes.

Well I am back to California. Didn't get a chance to visit another brother in NJ. Will leave that till October.
The total trip was almost 5000 miles. Went back through Telluride, Ouray, Durango, CO.
Slept in the car in the mountains. Climbed some steep hills. Total average mpg by the meter is 43.1 Original Dunlop tires made it back with now 76 K on them.
Ran through the Mojave today with insane heat outside - 121F!
Gosh, if you driving the 40 from Kingman to LA, fill up your tank either in Kingman or 40 miles south at Love's/Pilot where you pay 2.22 per gallon instead of 4.95 in the middle of the desert. Planning that is key.
Overall, the car made for a great cross country runner. Will do it again in a heart beat.

Thanks for sharing your adventure. Your lack of tire wear is impressive. After 35,000 of rural interstate driving my Dunlops were shot.
I have slept in the Fit a time or two. It works if you're tired enough.
