Angry 2007 honda fit sprot - rattling and engine light please help :(

Hello All,

I have a 2007 Honda Fit Sport with 150,000 plus miles on this poor thing. It is pretty usual for my car's check engine light to be on, usually not too many problems.

Recently I have noticed a light burning rubber smell and also there is a terrible rattling all the time - in drive, park, stopped everything. The rattling definitely sounds like something in the engine area, it almost sounds like something is loose.

I am so scared that I will have to drop thousands of dollars to repair and would just like to hear some suggestions for some peace of mind.

A check engine light should never be ignored. At the very least, take it to an auto parts store and ask them to pull the codes so you know why the light is on. The codes may give you additional insight into the other issues.

The rattle could be as simple as the heat shield on the exhaust or something much more severe.

Questions that I have that will help with my guess:
1. Maintenance history on vehicle including last valve adjustment and spark plug change?
2. Does the rattle increase in intensity with rpm?

Some possible reasons for the rattle:
-heat shield
-valves out of adjustment
-catalytic converter coming apart
-accessory item bearing going bad (A/C compressor, water pump, idler pulley)
-motor mounts

Some possible reasons for the burning rubber smell:
-loose spark plug
-transmission failing
-oil leak
-drive belt worn

An accessory item going bad could cause belt wear which would give you a rattle and burnt rubber smell.

I recommend a competent mechanic. If there is something wrong, delaying addressing the issue could become much more costly than fixing it now.

Lots of good info from GAFIT.

I will add open the hood & check the oil. Now not later.

Also look around, is the belt torn up?

When is the last time your Fit was in the shop for a wellness check?

Good luck.

2011 Honda Fit sport cat monitor not ready

Hi everyone, need help asap! Paid for my registration but got a catalyst OBDII not ready. My car was sitting for a while and the battery died, had to jump it. I have 185k miles on it. Never had any real issues and it's, driving amazingly still. After failed test I've driven over 500 miles and still not ready. I tried doing one cycle test as well. I just put in Cataclean, haven't retested yet. What else can I do? Should I keeo trying cycle tests? Drive on cruise control at 65mph a bunch? I have no clue but my tags are expired not since last month... Help 🙏

EVAP finally cleared

Following emissions testing guide in owners manual also posted here: https://www.hfitinfo.com/hofi-205.html worked well for me to move "EVAP" from not ready to ready. Passed SMOG today. This was after driving 1000 miles and EVAP still not ready. The 20 minutes of highway driving at 55mph was annoying.
